I think it was already covered that about 95% of the fuel in NA was ULSD, .. thus.. while it is not 100% gone..
* for the most part.. those of us that don't own a train don't see it ;)

*Maybe we should should rush out and buy a train before it's no longe available for them .

Howdy,
Not to bring up a older thread, but

The manufacturer is just covering thier bases with a blanket statement about diesel fuel type. I only have access to ULSD here. As you say by the posting earlier, he was able to by LSD (500ppm). There still might be stockpiles of LSD out there which are being sold. Yes, you can contact your supplier and make sure you only receive ULSD. You are a smarter consumer than some out there. Ford would want to deny your 2011 Ford diesel truck too if you ran a bunch of 500ppm stuff and clogged up stuff.

Warranty coverage should not be an issue if you feed it the right type of fuel. That means wether its on road, or off-road (dyed) and is ULSD, then you will not have the catalytic converter issue with any newer TIER 3 or 4 engine. You might have some other warranty claim, but not one involving a clogged converter

"quote from aurora generator fuel oil myths"

"Off-road fuel and red dyed fuel are designed to run on different engines. The sulfur content in red fuel is 500-1000 ppm Your engine and catalytic converter are designed for fuels with less then 10ppm. If you use those fuels, you will deactivate the catalyst and lead to soot clogging of the converter core. We see it all the time. Converters deactivated, over heated engines and exhaust systems glowing red hot from all the soot inside them. Often they catch on fire."

Some here are getting a little testy about a manufacturer warranty. A diesel engine which is broken in (new genset and you run it 20 hours) is most likely to not have an issue. Same thing with a tractor. A new tractor passes by 10, 20, 30 40 50--- hours, and your onward. The regulations are changing. It would be nice to say all off-road diesel is 15ppm world wide. It's not. I really think that if you fed your new generator a bunch of LSD 500ppm and had catalytic converter problems, you are on your own.

off stage, exit left~~~~

New thought...
It's a Yanmar ripoff copy right?
Has anyone looked up Yanmar's warranty on this design to see if they have the same suspicious no warranty clause?

The Aurora says it has a catalic (sp?) converter in the exhaust that will get fouled with off-road. maybe, maybe not.....I was wondering if I could REMOVE that piece of wonderment and it would NEVER get fouled :)
Thoughts?

I think the issue is the sulfur content of the fuel, not whether it's off-road or on-road. People always mix this up and equate the two where they shouldn't.

Off-road just means there is no highway tax in the fuel price, and the fuel is dyed red to indicate that. This is not a reliable indicator of sulfur content.

On-road diesel MUST be 15 PPM or less sulfur, otherwise known as ULSD (Ultra low Sulfur Diesel), so buying on-road assures you are buying ULSD. That relationship is reliable, i.e. on-road = Highway taxes = no red dye = ULSD

Off-road is not REQUIRED to be ULSD, but in practice it almost always is. Just ask the fuel distributor/dealer to confirm. So off-road = no highway taxes = red dye = (ULSD or LSD). In other words, it might be ULSD, but it's not guaranteed - you need to ask/check.

I just had my 250 gal storage tank filled the other day and it says right on the slip that it's off-road ULSD. Good thing because my excavator requires ULSD.

I just wish manufacturers would state their fuel requirements directly rather than obliquely. If their engine requires ULSD, then f%#&(ing say that, not something else. My excavator has a sticker next to the fuel tank that says only to use ULSD. It's perfectly clear what they want, and there's no confusion or speculation over whether red dye will ruin the machine, or not paying taxes is un-American, or whatever. It needs low sulfur fuel, so say THAT, not something else.
