I need to find a couple of good diesel cans to safely carry/store fuel for my tractor. What works best? Need 5 gallon.

TSC and other places sell Yellow containers for deisel. They are just like a regular gas can (red) but are yellow. They work fine for me.

The owners manual for my diesel truck warns against putting diesel fuel in a galvanized can. It says the zinc slowly desolves in the fuel and can be deposited in the injectors. So I stick with plastic if I have to use a container.

GeneD14 is exactly correct, use plastic tanks.

Try Home Depot, they have some nice 5 gallon yellow plastic cans for about $5-$6 each.

I got the Blitz brand 5 gallon yellow cans from Lowes with the "spill-proof" nozzle ($15 +/-). This is the only kind you can buy in PA now (due to government bureaucrats). Gripped about the nozzle since there is no vent cap and you need to push down on a sleeve to get it the pour. That is until I used it. I hate to admit that this is the best set-up I have used. It will overflow if you do not hold the can so the nozzle is vertical but does not drip and makes it easy to fill over the loader arms. See attached photo for nozzle style.

I believe the local TCS may also carry them.

When I got my tractor I bought a couple of Scribner 5 gallon fuel jugs. They are typically used by race car teams and such but I like them because they are very heavy duty and have a nice big mouth which makes them easy to fill at the diesel station. I have a couple of these that are probably 15 years old now I use for old motor oil and antifreeze and another one that I use for gasoline that sat outside for a few years with no bad effects. This page scribner jugs shows all the colors but you will find better prices if you do a google search.

Bought my diesel containers at TSC, reasonable price and no problems. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Walmart has this exact item for $4.99 in our area. The Yellow one marked diesel is $5.99

I also have to admit I was very sceptical about no vent, but if you hold it absolutely level (90 degrees from vertical) it pours great. Change the angle at all and it hardly pours. I probably own 10 with vents and 10 without and much prefer the ventless /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
