I have a question.......I am a new owner of a L3130HST. Talking with my brother and he said only use off road fuel or I will do damage to the engine. Dealer said use either. Is there a difference between diesel #2 an off road diesel .

Welcome to TBN!

Try a search under the oil/fuel form. There are literally HUNDREDS of posts about off-road diesel, heating fuel, taxes, etc.

The only difference is the red dye they put in it and the off road does not have the tax you pay at the stations.I have switched between the two everysince I have had a tractor-no problems.

Yep #2 on road and #2 off road are the same thing except for the dye. #1 is for colder weather. Your owners manual says to use #1 when its below 12-14(?)deg, can't remember for sure without looking.

I think this is one of those religious questions like which oil to use. Either is fine, but off-road is cheaper because you don't pay tax. I've read that off-road is the same as #2 home heating oil, that is, it has more sulfur than on-road diesel. Sulfur supposedly acts as a lubricant for the injector pump and the cylinders. I don't know if that is actually true. I've never run anything but road diesel in my BX because it's conveniently located right around the corner!

The pump where I get my off road diesel has a sign on it stating that it is high sulphur and dyed red for off road use only. It also smells different than the on road diesel so I'm assuming the sulphur content is higher. Dave...

Thanks to all for your input......From all that I have read off road does have a highr sulfur content but that is changing due to emmission standard changing. I spoke to another local kubota dealer and he said use either. So I guess I will stick to regular on road since I would have to drive 40 miles round trip for the offroad stuff and considering My Ford gas guzzling F250 with a 460 There woould be no savings.
Thanks again......By the way I just rolled 15 hrs on my new L3130HST. I love that machine more than my wife!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DISCLAIMER. Not a true statement. Any allegations that I do not love my wife will be denied. Its the nice new orange paint fogging the mind! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

RiverV... I buy my off road diesel directly from a distributor. They told me that off road comes directly out of their heating oil tank and they have an injector that adds red dye for the Feds and conditioners to climatize. He also said that it has higher sulfur content than diesel sold at a service station and it has a slightly higher BTU rating.

Ok...I will amend this to say it depends because sometimes its the same and sometimes its not. My distributer stated that the higher sulpher fuel was a tad cheaper and they try to get that as thier first choice for off road. He stated it also has a few more BTU's. So you may or may not get the same thing as whats at the pump. You would have to ask.
