Yesterday while waiting for my 1 PM appointment I witness a crime. A Lexus SUV had its headlights stolen. Two guys in a pick up truck pulled up to the SUV and in less then 20 seconds they pulled the front cover off the SUV and stole the lights, I understand the lights are over $1K to replace. I was about 150’ away sitting in my car. The 2 guys looked at me and then got out of the truck and stole the stuff. By the time I figured they were up to no good they were gone. I got a license plate number and a description of the vehicle and guys that was about all.

The cops were too busy to respond, they took the vehicle info over the phone and said they would be out to take a report in a few hours. This occurred in a large city with a high crime rate; if no one was injured they really did not care, guess this kind of stuff happen a lot. In contrast I live in a small community and I know if the same thing occurred here the police would have been here in a few minutes.

You know it happen so fast that I do not really recall much and wished I took a picture since the camera was next to me. Then again if these guys saw me taking a pictured they may have taken some action on ME! After I figured out what happen I then asked myself if I should get involved and let anyone know what I saw. I have never been involved in a crime and find it interesting how little we notice things. Now I know how those trial lawyers can make you look like a fool on the witness stand... LOL

So have you ever witnessed a crime and what was the outcome?

Everytime my wife goes to the IGA she says that it's a crime what groceries cost these days. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hindsight is always 20/20, and sometimes the best intentions end up biting one in the rear end as the law seems to work for the criminal. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I know people who have involved themselves in trying to stop crimes and have been sued and even charged with crimes themselves in return for their efforts. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have witnessed several crimes: one where a couple of guys were attempting to break into a car. I just started blowing my horn and created enough attention to where they ran off.

Another time I pulled into a convenience store and parked beside a car containing a male passenger who was slapping around a female driver. I got out of my vehicle went in the store and made my purchase and when leaving held the door open for the woman who was then entering the store crying. The male was still sitting in the car and happened to have his window rolled down. I couldn't resist - without a word I walked over hit him 3 times and left him slumped over in the seat, climbed into my truck and left. Guess the woman was surprised when she returned to the car, but at least she hopefully had a peaceful ride after that. I have a real problem with people who abuse women, children, old people, and animals. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Guess I should have just called the cops.

About 20 years ago, I was a witness to an armed robbery. I walked into a Burger King to grab some lunch. The place was almost empty. All the employees had that "deer in the headlights" look. Then I saw the gun. The only other person on my side of the counter had a handgun pointed straight at the manager. A couple other employees were gathering all the stores money. I just froze in my tracks. That must have been what the robber wanted me to do, because he never even aknowledged my being there. He took a big handfull of $$$$$$$$$ and ran out the door. Just as he ran around the corner of the store, 2 police cars skidded to a stop out front. The police ran after the guy. Soon the BK was full of detectives. I spent the next 4 hours answering questions. It was 2 days later before I found out they caught the guy less than a block from where we were at. He confessed. They caught him red-handed with the gun and the money.

Case closed(?) Or so I thought.

I made over a dozen trips to court to appear as a witness. Lawyers questioned MY motives for testifying. Me and all the Burger King employees were "on trial". I lost countless hours of work time.

I never did get my Whopper with cheese.............. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Sounds like your thieves have been reading the business section of the newspapers. They've picked up on the advantages of using timing to a real advantage. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Some years ago, I saw a group of kids running out of a JC Penney with arms full of clothes and a store manager hot on thier tails.

I was driving in the parking lot, so I chased them. I had a 4x4, so I jumped a few curbs and was squealing tires after them. I thought they were running fast out of the store; when they heard me chase them they kicked it in to an even higher gear!

I lost them at the edge of the mall parking lot when they dissappeared in to an apartment complex. They never dropped one item along the way.

Was hard to describe a group of six kids in various jackets and ballcaps.

Just so you know NEXT TIME, teenaged kids LOVE it when us "old timers" try to chase 'em. It just adds to the thrill.

And you aren't gonna catch 'em either.

I was sitting at a light one afternoon when a 20-something white male comes running across a mall parking lot with mall security in close pursuit. The guy tries to run across 6 lanes of moving traffic. Almost made it, but got plastered by a Crown Victoria that was doing 25-30 MPH. The impact threw him onto the hood of a car sitting next to me at the light. The security gaurd didn't have any trouble detaining the guy until the cops got there. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif The guy had lifted a pair of sneakers and shorts out of one of the mall's stores.

Made for a pretty exciting lunch break. Luckily, I didn't have to testify or anything.

I witnessed a guy stealign running boards off of a truck at the local Ford Dealer my dad's been a salesman at for almost 20 years and I worked there in college. Being it's kind of a family place I viewed it as he was messing with the family property and once I "detained him" then I called the cops.
The looser tried to run before the cops got there but he kinda got tripped up and hit his head on the hood of the truck he was tryign to steal the running boards off of. Don't ya hate it when that happens?? Ooopps!!!!!!
Then I once caught a guy trying to steal gas from the HVAC shop I worked at. I stopped by the shop to get ice for the belly of a freshly killed deer. I happened to notice an aimage by the gas pump, my buddy and I grabbed our shotguns and went to investigate. By the end of the night he was unsuccesful in his attempt, cops showed up a bit later, took soem names sent the guy down the road. Preached to us about gun safety blah blah blah......... What a crock!

About 2 years ago I witnessed the tail end of a bank robbery. It was a banking outlet in a grocery store. As I was walking into the store, there was a guy with a cap and dark glasses and plastic bag and gun running out. Went immediately up to the bank counter where a female teller was crying hysterically, and two others in shock. The robber apparently had jumped the counter and cleaned out the drawers. I went outside to see if I could see the robber but he was long gone. Ironically, there was a cop sitting in his car in the parking lot at the opposite end of the store. I got into my truck, drove over to him and informed him that the bank inside the store had just been robbed. He had no idea, apparently, since he immediately zoomed off towards the store. I asked a detective that arrived a few minutes later if I needed to hang around for a statement. He said no.

Oh yea, when I was in high school working at Safeway, we were robbed at gunpoint and put into the egg cooler.

I once saw an SUV (think Expedition) back into a Dakota in the parking lot a Subway.

The lady looked around and then just drove off, but not before she looked at me, writing something down on a napkin and looking at her.

Then I just asked the patrons in the store if anyone owned the Dakota in the lot. An older gentleman said yes and I said it just got hit. I gave him the napkin with the plate number and also my name and number for which he thanked me numerous times, even wanted to buy my lunch. I just told him I would hope if my car ever got hit I would get the same result.

I guess the lady got a bit worried because as I was leaving the store, she pulled up and asked ME if she hit that truck. I told her she did and that gentleman over there is the owner. I'm sure it had a good ending.

While working at a department store in high school, I would occssionally catch shop lifters. Once I confronted a family, yes family, that I saw lifting a bunch of steering wheel covers, air freshners, etc. - amazing what people will steal.

The department head was with me, an older woman, when confronted they got very beligerent. The son, he was probably my age but about 1/2 my weight, came charging at me. I grabbed him and he twisted, setting up for a perfect hip toss. Brought my inside leg around, gave the boy a twist and a jerk and literally sent him flying into a wall of paint cans. About half the cans came off the wall, busting open as they hit the floor sending paint everywhere.

This happened in an instant, then I realized what I had done. Did not know what to expect next but figured I was in major doo-doo. To my surprise the boy got up, and started running, along with the rest of the faimly, to the front of the store. The police arrived just as they were leaving as they had been called when the family started getting confrontational. They saw people running from the store, one with wet paint on him, and thought it looked suspicous. They got the family. Turns out they had also stolen a bunch of clothes, tapes and other stuff that was crammed in thier pants. A search of the car turned up a lot of other stolen stuff from other stores.

My reward, I got to clean up the paint mess - my first lesson from corporate America.
