Watching TV last night and this morning, I wonder if Sandy lived up to expectations? Lots of news people and politicians were warning of the worst storm ever and this morning seem to be backpedaling on it. We didn't get much in Ohio but, for those who went through it, was it as bad as feared? Did the hype match what happened? What do you think and what was your experience?

Don't know what part of Ohio your from but here lots of power outages flooding and downed trees. Been raining for two days now.

We were told we would get some heavy rain and gusts up to 60 mph, we got drizzle and a couple gusts of 23 mph. We get worse than that in a summer thunder storm. Praying for those who got worse than we did here in the Shenandoah valley.

Back to the election. Nice two day break. I live 40 miles south of Richmond, VA and we had a little over 2 inches of rain and 20-30 mph winds.
Good luck to those who were hit hard. Not a good time to have no power for a week or so.

Better safe than sorry. In other words... better to blow it out of proportion and convince people to respect the storm than down play it and have a hurricane Katrina situation on your hands.

It may be a local thing and depends on perspective.

I'm hearing at least 13 dead....did not match their expectation.
And some 7 million plus without power...a few days without power and they'll probably think it was a bad storm.
Some 40 houses burned in NYC...not good.

Now it's been good for business if you were selling generators, batteries, flashlights, water, etc....so, that's a good thing.

Yes, my power went out 2:00 pm yesterday. Several large trees uprooted, one's got the power and phone lines on the ground. Got the generator humming and the wood stove burning. It'll probably be a few days before power's restored.

Looked like a nothing burger on TV to me, someone who has been through some real hurricanes here in Texas. My recommendation for NYC pick up the one piece of plywood in the street and your good to go, might take four hours to plan though and decide who's going to move it. Minor damages right on beach areas, nothing more. Barely brakes the "news" threshold for me.

Seriously? You might want to try a different news channel.

Just the one fire was pretty bad and certainly "news" worthy - ~200 fire fighters in a six alarm fire that eventually destroyed 80-100 homes, fighting the fire in chest deep water trying to rescue people trapped in flooded burning buildings.

Geographically the biggest storm recorded. The lowest hurricane pressure recorded north of NC. Worse problems ever to hit the subway system in its 100+ years. Over 13,000 flights have been canceled. Record floods in the most populated city in the nation. They're already throwing around numbers in the tens of billions of dollars of damage, and its only been daylight for a few hours. 7+ million without power, estimates say power should be restored in 7-10 days. If you include other countries, the death toll is approaching 100.

South central PA here...
We had a lot of rain and wind, but no damage and only lost power momentarily.
Although I do think the news media did overemphasize the storm, to be fair, no one could predict the exact track of the storm. I'm sure those closer to the coast, especially Delaware and NJ, will have more input.

And also to be fair...if the storm had taken a different track, my post would be considerably different (assuming we had power so I could even post it).

Just snow here the appalachian mountains of west virginia and wind and more snow. But not as much I heard at first prediction. None the less I love snow and got to move it around with my JD tractor this morning. Even though my battery was dead when I went out. Seems blustery cold winds take the toll on batterys round here.
