A friend of mine was at Lowes and found a model 733 DeWalt 12 1/2" planer. We've both been in the market for one. I know the 733 is a discontinued unit and I know the 734 and 735 are out, but I didn't quite wanna spend $380 - $500 on a planer just yet --- I'm cheap!
Anyway, he calls me and asks, "How does $100.85 sound?"
I was thinking he meant saving that much but he meant the price was $100.85. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I told him if they had two of them, to buy one for me. An hour later he shows up with my new planer -- $100.85. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Did I get a good deal or what? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I told my other half that I just saved her $200 buy buying that planer. She mumbled something about spending the $200 savings on jewlery. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ya done good! I had one of those for a couple of years, and ran nothing but hardwood through it. Sturdy little unit! Wear hearing protection!

Wish I could get a deal like that on a DeWalt. Settled for a Delta 12 inch planer. It's seen a lot of hours so I'll not complain.

Pardon me one complaint; it has reversable disposable knives but beign parsiminous through nessesity I hone the worn blades and reuse them. while doing this several weeks ago I managed to cut my finger. Then tried to figure out how I did it and cut the same finger again only deeper. Cut off the flapping skin, wraped it with electricians tape and kept working in the blue air.

I have caught a few deals like that at Lowe's. Doesn't hurt that I work there. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif If one is quick enough, one can score mucho hardware for a lot less money.

I've been to a couple of different Lowes trying to catch a buy like that. Don't really need one right now, but for the price it would be nice to have for future projects, oh well I guess it'll have to be a future purchase when I actually need it. The only deal I found was a DeWalt chop saw, it was $152 at one store and the new model is $199. Not a bad deal, but not as good as yours. I passed on that one for right now. Maybe if I ever learn to weld and I actually work with metal.........

Gary,

I could never tell my wife that. She's always coming home from shopping saying, "Look what I found on sale! I saved us $125.00 (or whatever the amount is for the particular purchase)." And then I always respond with, "Great. But if you hadn't bought anything at all, we would've saved even $125.00 (or whatever number) more!"

So if I EVER tried to use that rationalization, I know EXACTLY /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif what I'd hear!

good one. We only have HD here, they used to be like that , not any more. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Have not had a great by since I got a lincon weldpack for $50.00.

HD now takes off maybe 10-15 bucks.

I agree with your thoughts on Home Depot. We did get some great deals there but not anymore. Most recently, our local HD has a Dewalt 18v kit that the case is broke on and there is only one battery and the tools look like they have been demoed. We think it would be nice to get this kit real cheap for our other workers to use and carry when on other jobs. A few weeks ago, HD had a sale where you can get 20% off all new tools. This kit cost $450 new so we could get a new kit for $360 then. Anyway for this beat up kit the price they gave us was $342.87 and it is short a battery from the new kit. So it still sits there.

I also am getting tired of everytime we go there and look at tools, all of the HD employees push their Rigid brand of cordless tools on us. We almost have an argument everytime we go there looking for DeWalt tools because they want us to buy Rigid instead. I am so sick of them pushing Rigid I will never buy one because of it. The one day the one employee who works in the tool department was talking to us and started pushing Rigid (lifetime warranty /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif), anyway all he kept saying was it had a lifetime warranty. I told him it would not make sense for us to replace all our tools now as we have a lot of DeWalt 14.4v and 18v tools. His response was what would we do if our DeWalt died 20 years from now. Rigid would give us a new one (if they are still in the cordless tool market and still have to means of making a 20 year old tool). I told him if our DeWalt lasted 20 years we would be extremly happy it lasted that long. We don't expect our tools to last 20 years as the abuse they get from being used daily is not good for their life /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Sorry for venting but I wonder if anyone else has noticed them pushing Rigid so hard?

Sounds like a toadie of a salesman... If I could make a cordless anything last for 10 years, I'd be doin' good...

Lowe's was running the 20% off the same weekend on any handheld power tools except air nailers... With a scan of my employee card, I got a little more off... /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Earlier in the year I scored a Dewalt sliding miter saw for roughly half price. It was a return. Someone had finished their job and returned it the best we could surmize. Worked great on prefinished flooring I put down in the parent's kitchen. Way more portable than the radial arm.

My last deal was a Bosch router kit on clearance at about $50 off... Somthing about a new model taking it's place... I can use obsolete for a bargain. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
