hi,
This deutz F2L 511D is connected to a generator, it runs the metal lathe in my shop. I havnt run it for about 6 months, at which time it ran perfect. Now I have fuel at the injector pump, but not at the injectors themselves. Ive probably screwed up things even more now by opening the lines, but with the fuel lines off the injectors, I can run the starter and no fuel comes out... Is the injector pump something easy to just pull off and clean? Any suggestions would be helpful.
Thanks

I wouldn't pull the injector pump just yet. Timing is very critical on diesels and reinstalling that pump could be a bear. I would continue to turn engine over and crack one fuel line at a time up near the injector until fuel appears.

Also, first make sure fuel is getting to the injector pump. How is it fed? Gravity, fuel pump?? Make sure a valve is not shut-off. These engines don't normally lose prime just sitting around.

I pulled off the fuel line from the lift pump to the injector pump and it was under pressure (squirt out). So I know at least fuel is that far. When I pulled the lines at the injectors and crank it over there isnt even a trickle of fuel coming out, nothing. I do have a couple of questions about what Im seeing at the injector pump: There is a 1/4" round pin sticking up under spring pressure, I can easily push it down, it springs back up. It sticks up about 1 inch. Could this possibly be a priming thing, or a fuel shutoff for the fan shroud (it looks like the shroud may be broke there, but I dont see any plastic laying around and its been in this one spot for several years). The other thing Im curious about is the (and please forgive my ignorance here) there is a soleniod, the oil pressure controls it, and its also how the engine is shut off, it pushes in a spring loaded rod, the end of the rod is double nutted, and is not quite touching the soleniod actuator.. it almost looks like part of that rod might've somehow broken and perhaps it should be pushed in some distance at rest. Probably impossible for anyone to tell me without seeing an identical engine, although I did take some pics if that might help. This engine ran beautifully every time I ran it until this last time. Any other thoughts or questions?

this is the spring loaded pin, the belt guard is either cut out or broken, I dont know if perhaps the guard was holding this pin down or not

and this is the soleniod operated rod, the bent soleniod part pushes the double nuts in about 1/4 inch, not sure if that double nutted part was once longer, making it pushed in some before the soleniod actuates.

It sounds like the fuel is shutoff Deutz normally have a broken belt shutdown mechanism that moves the rack to the shutoff position to prevent an expensive overheat problem.

First let me say thank you to those of you who gave some thought to the problem I had with the Deutz. I'll tell you what I did to fix it even though I have no idea how this fixed it. I have held down that pin many times now, cranking the engine as I did, with the lines cracked at the injectors, and them closed, didnt help. I have pushed that rod in further than the soleniod does, many times, and it didnt help. But this morning as I was doing all this again, I pushed in the pin, and while holding it it, I pushed in the rod (maybe the rack?) and when I let the rack come back out, and lifted my finger off the pin.. the pin only came half way back up! I hit the starter and in about 5 seconds it started!
I didnt have to bleed it or anything else. ANd oddly the pin came right back up to its full out position, where it was when it wouldnt start. So I killed it, and restarted it, it starts now instantly, yet the pin is in the same position as it was when it wouldnt start. So I mustve reset something by working the pin and rod at the same time. Any ideas what I did that was so right? Thanks again for your interest and help

Hi what you have done is reset the belt break shutdown sometimes these can pop off of their own accord (not much fun when you are sailling down the road ) dont try to pull the injector pump to bits unless y ou are really sure you know what you are doing as internal timing of the pump is critical, and you can end up with something that wont run at all or just revs all the way into oblivion if you happen to upset the govenor. Usually these engines are pretty bulletproof there is a little screen in the top of the prime pump that needs cleaning at every service to as it is often overlooked apart from that the only other thing is they can do head gaskets but this is not too serious you can tell by a loud popping sound when you start it then fades away otherwise a good engine

I guess its possible that its some sort of break belt reset but I've looked at the belt, and the only 3 things touching it are the pulleys of the drive, alternator and fan... so unless it has some other way of knowing the belt is broke, there is no electrical switch, no other mechanical linkage touching the belt. I would love to see a good parts breakdown or manual.

Sorry to drag up an old thread.

But in case you haven't progressed with this, we've just got one of these engines in a Case 360 Trencher. The chap we got it from said that for a cold start you need to push that pin down and give the engine 30 seconds of glow plug heat before trying to start it.

Works like a charm on ours, might be worth a shot on yours.

That pin does come back up after the engine starts.
