I just bought a kubota 5740 HSTC yesterday and on my last tractor I used to use a bungee to hold the lever for my log splitter or the backhoe on the rear remotes. Reading some of the posts on here, I here people talking about detent valves. I had the dealer install 2 rear remotes so I have room for one more valve. Where do I get this detent valve so I can get rid of my bungee cord? Can I get it from the dealer? Thanks for everyone helping me out picking the right tractor.

You can either add a third valve with a detent spool in place of a spring-centered one, or simply change the spool in one of your existing valves if parts are available to do that. The best choice depends on what you were planning on using the two remotes you already have for.

I don't know if the Kubota valves offer interchangeable spools, but I would think that they do. Most if not all the better aftermarket valves (Prince for example) are available with your choice of spool valves.

Chilly,

On my two valves, one is float and the other is standard. I know I can buy a stack kit for the third valve, but how what should I ask for for this valve? I didnt see this as an option when I bought the tractor. How would I change the detents on one of the valves already installed? I have a top tilt that will run on the float, and the other valve will be for the backhoe. The standard valve. Can I change that valve? WHere do you change it at? I am newbie to the hydro questions.

You need to get a look at the Kubota parts book for the valves you have, each valve manufacturer is specific as to what parts are needed.

Here's a link to the Prince parts manual for their stack valves.

http://www.princehyd.com/Portals/0/products/valves/Series20Manual.pdf

The part pertaining to the spool detent option is on pages 9, 10 and 11. This particular valve offers several different options depending on what you need the valve to do. Some have 3 detented positions, some are spring centered with detents on the two ends, some are two position with one detented, etc. In general, the detent parts are in the end cap on the end of the spool opposite the lever.

Your dealer is the best bet for what's available specific to your tractor, with any luck they'll have a mechanic that can listen to you tell him what you want it to do, then order the right parts and install them.

If you have a front end loader, the lift cylinder float position is an example of a spring centered detented spool valve, it holds the valve in that position unless you move the lever to pop it out.

With any luck, someone else will have more specific experience with the Kubota stack valves than I do, I added an aftermarket valve to mine.

I have no faith in the dealer up here. And there is only one dealer. I know that the tractor has float detent. I may call alaska hydraulics and have them look at the tractor and see what can be done. I know nothing about if they can or cant be changed and what kind of valves they are. The tractor was put on the boat yesterday in tacoma and will be in anchorage on monday. I havent even seen it in person yet.

The local hydraulic folks may be your best bet in that case. I doubt Kubota makes their own stack valves, if they can find out who made the ones you have and get access to parts, there's a good chance they can set you up with a detent spool on one of your remotes.

Another option is to contact Kubota directly and ask them for details on the valves. Have a look at the new beasty first, it may be obvious which way to proceed.

Good luck.

Alaskakubota,

To change your valve from spring centered to detented, you need only to purchase the proper position kit that fits on the back side of the valve.....(cover, spacers, springs, bolr ect.)

You'll reuse the valve spool (as this is precision fit for that valve body) and change all the stuff mounted on the back side only with the correct OEM parts....

The problem will be to identify the brand and model of control valve....some of these imported valves that are sold/used today parts are not as available as you'd think.....and the parts are "Brand specific only".....

Otherwise you'll end up replacing control valve or go back to bungee cords....

Maybe post up some pics and someone here may know the brand/model..??

Hope this helps.....:).....Bill

I had this same question when I was setting up my 5240. I wanted a valve with a detent to stay open so I could use the outlet as a power beyond setup with a hydraulic feed chipper. I talked to the sales guy and their hydraulic tech and they both said this was not possible from Kubota. They suggested 1) a bungee cord to hold the valve open or 2) a loop from the loader. I ended up going the bungee route but i did get a valve with the float detent.

I would also be interested in getting a valve set up with a detent in the open position.

Maybe the simplest way would be to fabricate a steel/aluminum bracket that will fold out of the way that could enable the lever to be held in the latched position...

This would not alter anything mechanically on the DCV and essentially have the same end result......

Perhaps you could use a solenoid valve to activate hyd flow to an attachment. You need a sub-plate for the valve. Switch A on, hyd flow one direction, switch B on, hyd flow other direction. Momentary switch for intermittent flow, and toggle switch on-off-on for locked on.

This sub-plate can operate three solenoid valves.

You can select different valves for different operations.
