Tractor
Still searching
Has anyone seen (or have guesses of) depreciation curves related to used tractors? For example, used cars look something like this:

After three years, your car's value decreases to 58% of the initial value.
After four years, your car's value decreases to 49% of the initial value.
After five years, your car's value decreases to 40% of the initial value.

I assume with tractors the depreciation curve has less to do with the year and much more related to the hours. Is the life of a tractor (for resale/depreciation purposes) generally pegged to 5000 hours. Is that the equivalent to a car being assumed to driven for 200,000 miles?

I'm interested in a Kubota 3960HSTC and I'm trying to find that sweet spot where the depreciation curve starts to flatten out. With cars it's usually around 5 years/60,000 miles. And if there is any input on the 3960HSTC, feel free to add that here, too. Thanks!

I have no doubt that all tractor makes are not the same. Kubota would certainly be one of the more favourable ones. Traditionally, a ten year old low hours tractor would still be worth a bundle. A hardly used vehicle, not much. With all the electronics/computers, and dwindling prospects for parts and support, I suspect, tractors will start to become more like cars in depreciation.

ONE OWNER, inside stored, diesel engine compact tractors WITH GOOD CARE, not used by employee operators, go to 10,000 engine hours before needing a moderately expensive overhaul to ready them for succeeding 10,000 engine hours.

Before 10,000 engine hours expect to purchase 6 replacement front tires, 4 replacement rear tires, 25 rubber and fabric hydraulic lines, two replacement mufflers or DPFs, 2 batteries, etc. I renew Kubota affiliated KTAC insurance every year.

The primary stress on road cars and trucks is uniform air resistance. There is nothing uniform about the stresses applied to tractors.

I made a mistake earlier: I meant the L3940, which I'm comparing against the L4330.

Compact tractor used in good condition sell at their purchase value approximately 70-80% of value depending on brand. Larger than 40 horse prior to tier IV requirements are now keeping their value plus. Tier 4 tractors are still to new to be on lots in any volume. Again depending on brand it can bring 80+ percent of its value. Long run it痴 cheaper to purchase new and obtain new warranty. New used tractors are expensive to repair unlike pre tier 4 models. Good well maintained tractor sells fast. Used and abused sell typically in auctions another person ends with the headache on well used machine not maintained. Keep searching for the needle in the haystack it exists every so often. Just read post where gentlemen found TC40 2008 low hours he is ecstatic the unit looks like it came off of the showroom floor. Blind squirrel gets acorn nut ever so often as my father would say.

Used tractor market does not take the hit vehicles do. Know where near that. In indiana I have seen used scuts for **** near as much as what they cost new. Equipment is like that. Excavators, Dozers, Tractors, Skid Steers. Back in 2002 I bought a link belt excavator used with around 400 hrs on it. Cab, heat, radio, great condition, it was the biggest excavator with a blade. It was a bit over 30k. I looked up that exact same used machine in todays comparable markets. Its 65k. Inflation is a *****

Just don't try and sell a very little usd tractor and expect people to jump on it for near new price. A few factors are at play that make that difficult.
