Delo 400LE vs Tractor Supply House Brand

Asked wife to stop at Tractor Supply when she went shopping this past weekend, asked her to p/u 3gals. of DELO 400LE CJ/4 diesel engine oil which is on sale for $10 a gal. She came back with Traveller all fleet diesel engine oil 15W-40 CI/4 which was on clearance $4.99 a gal. What Would You Do, use it for spring oil change in my tractor, a Mahindra 2002 4110 with 800+ hrs or go get the DELO oil which is still on sale.

just kidding , So I'm guessing you would use it for the spring maintenance

Sure... They are both good quality 15W40 diesel rated motor oils... That is what you have been using.
Myself, I use synthetic but I don't think you can go wrong using good multi-viscosity non-synthetics. KennyV

BTW...
There are a lot of oil folks that will tell you to get all the CI-4 oil you can as it is a superior formulation to CJ-4... But do not use CI-4 in a on highway diesel with an exhaust aftertreatment device such as diesel particulate filter (DPF) or diesel oxidation catalysts.

You will not be able to find CI-4 after the existing stock is sold out. There was a big run on it here about a year ago and it disappeared quick. KennyV

Does oil have a shelf life, at that price should I go buy whats left at the store

That is an arguable question.. everything has a shelf life, but a lot of things have such a long life expectancy that it is not normally considered...
I would not be concerned with having several years oil supply on hand, if it were available at a good price.
That said, you and everyone else will eventually have to switch to the latest blends--- at some point. KennyV

I sure hope it lasts a long time - I scarfed up about 40 gallons of RTS 5-40 CI-4+ last year.

That is my 1st choice for motor oil... Wish I had 40 gallons of it. KennyV

I bought Rotella around 2004 in gallon jugs for $3 per gallon that was on clearance due to it being the old white bottles. I am down to my last 3 gallons and only run it in my tractor. It has the foil covers under the cap so yes it may have a shelf life but I am sure it would last for 10 years or more if in sealed containers.
