Definitive Kubota Orange budget replacement

FYI: I found the PERFECT budget Kubota Orange paint.

Its Rustoleum "Lobster Red" - $3.77/can at Walmart.

It is absolutely identical to the 'new' Kubota orange. I painted a test panel on my BX2750 snowblower yesterday, and it is indistinguishable from the original factory paint. It is also old-fashioned oil-based good quality paint (2-4 hour dry-to-touch time). I wouldn't be surprised if this is the same paint that is in the $13 Kubota spray cans.

You mention that Kubota has a "new" orange.

I've got a 1984 L275 4WD so I guess the "new" paint would be a somewhat different color. Correct?

That is correct, you would have the "old" kubota orange

My first try was a Rustoleum "Real Orange" - some new type of paint they make that covers with half the paint (one can = two). It did seem to cover extremely well, was also $3.77, and it was quite orange compared to the much redder new color. It might be worth a try for the old color.

I was using the "engine Chevrolet orange "high heat"" on my rims,
10 bucks at CTC, still cheaper than Kubota's.

At $3.77 that's what I would call this.

Take a look at this. This is a piece of metal off of a 2010 Kubota L3400hst so it is Kubota II also known as "new Kubota orange". First photo is the original painted metal.. It is dirty, so take that into account.
The second photo is one half freshly sprayed with the Rustoleum Lobster Red paint bought today from Wally World. .. still wet. It looks like a really good match to me, about as good as I have seen. It looks better in person than this photo!

Great tip Jay - thanks. I'm doing a blast-prime-paint on parts of my L3250 - this is the right stuff at the right time - perfect. We have a Home Depot closer than a Walmart and they sell it too - online, shipped to the store in a six-pack same price per can.

Here is a photo under fluorescent lighting after the paint has dried. As you can see( within the limitations of computer images) a very good match.

Rocky, get a can of this paint, and spray a little squirt of it into something, I use the cap sometimes, and take a Q tip and use it to touch up little scratches or dings. The key is not to press hard with the Q tip, but just get it fairly "juicy" and just barely touch the flaw with it and let the paint flow into the flaw.

I used this paint last night on a hydraulic cylinder, and got excellent results. I had been using the Majic spray paint from TSC for Kubota stuff, but it sucked, with a coarse spray pattern and poor coverage (often took 4 coats and still looked lousy). This Rustoleum went on nicely and only took two coats. It looks awesome.

I figure I ought to pickup a couple extra cans to have on hand. For the price, it can't be beat.

yes, everyone seems to have come to about the same conclusion on the "Majic" brand of spray paint. It seems to be a "loser".

I bought a can yesterday and hope to try it out this weekend.





To my eyes, the color of the plastic cap seems to have a little too much red in it to match my 2007/2008 factory paint.





To those that have already tried this color, if you still have the cap how close is the color of the cap to the finished/dried object that you painted?

There is a demo above using a 2010 kubota L3400hst - apparently is dead nuts. I thought my BX was a little more orange than the blower, but maybe not. In any case, it's pretty dang close - as close as Kubota paint, I'll bet.

I'm getting tempted to buy a case and give my '94 L4200 a full paint job. It could definitely use it.
