doing a tranny oil change and after I emptied the bottle of oil into the machine, i for some reason looked into the bottle and noticed little brown chunks of the oil, as if it had seperated.. this oil is only from last year and has never been left open or exposed.. I spend the extra $$$ to buy JD oils and this has me worried if it is suppose to last 400 hours... any body use anything better... AMS synthetic??

I have noticed some finer, dust-like particles (light brown) in the bottom of the 1-gallon jugs before. But, I've also seen that in new motor oils or other hyd oil containers that has been sitting on the shelf for an extended period of time, too. JD products are not the only $$$ fluids that I've encountered that situation with.

I generally leave a bit of fluid in the bottom of the jug that has any "dregs" left over. Annoying, but the new filters are 5-10 micron and will stop most all contaminants. As well, the most serious problems are bits of metal and other hard, abrasive contaminants that might score a bearing surface or hyd pumps, etc. The organic or chemical additive that might have settled out of the hyd fluid doesn't pose that kind of danger to your tractor - IMO.
