I would appreciate some input from other members on whether I should purchase Deere's extended warranty on my 5105M. I took dellivery last August and I must make a decision before the delivery date anniversary. Deere offers extended warranty for up to five years on my tractor. The cost is about $1500.
I just had my first service about four weeks ago and everything on the tractor is working great. I have about 150 hours on the tractor now. That will probably be my annual usage for the life of the tractor, but who knows what time will bring.
Should I purchase the extended warranty?

MWRR - I can only use my NH TC-29D Tractor as a comparable to answer your question or better said to give you my experience so you can make your decision...I bought my Tractor new in 2000 and it has never been back to the dealer ..I have almost 400 hrs. on it and I have done all my own scheduled service but other than that it has been trouble free...So had I bought the extended warranty I would have wasted my money...but who knows what could happen...good luck with your decision.

Should I purchase the extended warranty?
For whatever reason, I never had the opportunity to purchase any extended warranty. Would have probably done so if I could have afforded it at the time, especially if the extended warranty is transferable.

I never buy extended warranties and overall have come out ahead. With the small number of hours you are putting on, I just can't see it as John Deere makes really reliable, long lasting machines.

Extended warranties - not for me! You have to remember the company issuing the warranty is in business to make money. Lots of money. They have spent a considerable amount of time writing a policy and setting the price at a point where they come out in the black on a large majority of the policies written.

I have never purchased an extended warranty in my entire 64 years. And really, they're not actually warranties as such. They're more like conditional insurance policies against selected types of mechanical failures. To me it's gambling, with the odds well stacked in favor of whoever's selling the warranty. If you're not satisfied with the original warranty - buy something else.

Thanks for the input guys. My concern was that I put so few hours on the tractor that if there was some weak part that the warranty would be out before the tractor had enough hours on it for the weak part to fail. I have kicked around the idea of purchasing one additional year but, it sounds like Deere makes a very reliable tractor and is probably not worth the money in my situation. Thanks again.

FWIW, I was recently told by a salesman from whom I had bought before and trusted that in his opinion an extended warranty was just a waste of money.

I would figure that I could replace some major parts for $1500. I may never have any trouble though and could save the $1500. My luck I'd have a breakdown right after the warranty ended, then I'd be out the $1500 plus cost of repairs.

With a Tier IV emissions system, if the extended warranty covered it? Then yes.
