Planters Deere 71 Planter: HELP

I purchased a 71 Flexi planter in great shape on Ebay. But the knob who sold it to me didn't send the instruction book, and now I won't get it in time to plant over the next week (he's rather slow in responding). Can anyone walk me through it's operation? Or are there some simple instructions on line? I guess I could figure some of it out but want to be sure. Thanks. I do have five different plates for it, which all seem to be for corn.

I just downloaded the Yetter manual for the 71 Flexi Planter and it is not nearly as complete as the original JD operators manual. The Yetter manual certainly covers that basics.

For furture reference, you may want to get a copy of the JD manual. There is a guy who sells them on Ebay I think I paid about $9 for my copy. The JD manual lists seed plate numbers and tells what plate works with what seed, etc.

Thanks for the thoughts Bob. The guy is supposed to send the manual to me. In the mean time the Yetter manual will do. I'm somewhat confused about plates. I did arrange the gears to get spacing about 7.5". I'm not sure what the heck flat or round seed is or what type of plate to get. Hopefully the local Agway guy tomorrow will know.

Got a fax machine???? If so, send me a PM with your email addy, and fax #. I'' copy and fax you my manual. There were several updates to the manuals over the years. I have what was the last update Deere did before dropping the #71 planter.

I just planted 2 acres of sweet corn yesterday with mine. They are "Da Bomb".

Indy, your garden is bigger than mine, but I finished my planting for the year yesterday. About 3/4 acre of sweet corn, a couple rows of green beans and LOTS of sunflowers around the perimeter areas just for kids & birds

Yesterday's planting was for my Aunt and Uncle. They have 120 acres near Lietchfield Kentucky. They're retired, and on a fixed income. (Aren't we all in some ways....???) I plant a couple acres of sweet corn, a couple acres of green beans, and usually around 100 tomato plants for them every year. I'll take the cultivator down there and keep the weeds in check for them. They set up a road-side stand and sell the "crop". Keeps 'em busy, and I enjoy the time we spend together. My dad was from a family of 13. My uncle is the last surviving one.

Oh yeah, I do have MY garden too!

I ran the "prototype" liquid fertilizer attachment (on the #71 planter) yesterday. It did OK.... Not great, but OK. With everything set the exact same way, one row fed almost 50% faster than the other. Not real sure just yet where the problem is at. Oh well.... Got a whole year to work it out.....

Tell that for a joke but it may be true.......

In fact, that's what I was using for "pop-up fertilizer".... Water soluable Miracle Grow plant food.... I'm thinking it clogged one of the strainers. (I ran out of "real" liquid fertilizer)
