Deere 521
Hi, my Deere 5205 tractor won’t start. The battery is charged and all the lights come on. No noise when I turn the key. It’s not in gear and the PTO is not engaged and we banged on the starter. I read somewhere it could be the grounding wire, starter selenoid or the starter. Someone told me they didn’t think it was the ground cuz the battery and lights are ok. Is there a way to narrow down the issue? Thank you.

I bit more info would be nice to know. Does it do nothing but light up instruments on the key turn? Me thinks a safety switch has failed. They all have to work properly before power is sent to the starter.

Should be simple to track down. You should have power to the starter. If that's okay check for power to the solenoid when you turn the key. If you don't it's the ignition switch or one of the safety switches.

Did you try to jumper the starter? You can have lights but it takes amps to start an engine. Have you cleaned your
battery cables?

Does your fuel solenoid have the well loved thermistor in its circuit?
If no clack when key is turned this may be the problem.

Unplug the water temp sensor harness and see if it will start. My 5210 did the same thing and we found that unplugging this sensor, it will start. Bought a new sensor and never got around to installing the new one.
