deere 5020 rockshaft arms not working well

Hello again,

The rockshaft arms on my jd 5020 do not seem to be operating well - i.e. I am unable to control them well. When I move the lever down, they move down gradually to a point but then will go all the way down. This is really problematic as I cannot adjust the depth of plowing well at all. Can anyone point to the problem and fix. Thank you.

I will recommend to adjust L/D linkage as outlined in a JD 5020 tech manual. There are several steps in correct settings.

Is there a rebuild kit for the control valve? Is it possible that this is the problem as well?

I do not have a tech manual but I guess I will have to break down and get one. Is there a difference between a shop and a technical manual? Thanks again Tx Jim.

I would go through RS adjustment settings before worrying about installing seal kit. Shop & technical manual are one in the same.

Thank you. I will order the tech manual and do as you suggested. I am slowly rebuilding this tractor, it is an exciting process but slow as I am totally new to this. I currently have the tractor in the shop, getting the engine overhauled.

My radiator is missing the neck as pictured in the diagram. I ordered the filler neck and will take the radiator to the shop to get it rebuilt. I am not sure, however, how high the filler neck is supposed to sit above the radiator? Does it sit right on it or on top of the integrated neck as pictured in the diagram? The latter would seem more likely given that there is an isolated pad that goes in between the two. Thanks again for your help.

I think replacement radiator neck should be attached directly to radiator.

Ok, I will attach it directly then.

I called today re the technical manual and they asked me if I wanted the technical manual (242 pages) or the service manual (450 pages). They do not know what the difference is, can you tell me? Thanks again, Marcin.

I think you will need the tech manual TM1022 or TM1022CD as it states 5020 rowcrop.
