After a lot of work, I now have my 3010 rockshaft working very well. (Tractor is an early '61.) I have one unsolved problem - fast leakdown of the hydraulic part of the rockshaft system when the tractor is shut off. The lift arms settle to bottom in less than half an hour.
The shop manual is very unhelpful, but it seems to say that the rockshaft flow control valve also functions as a check valve when the engine is off. I opened up the valve assembly and removed the flow control valve along with its strong compression spring. It looked fine but I bought a new one anyway, along with a new spring. No change at all. I've studied all the parts diagrams and I don't think I am missing anything.
Has anyone encountered and solved this problem? It would probably be common to Deere 3010/3020 and 4010/4020.
