1947 Ford 8N 6v positive ground system front mount distributor sn 10101 all OEM & Deere 1050 with front loader and back hoe.
My 1050 is experiencing hydraulic problems and I need some advice. Currently at a Deere repair center but they are having trouble sourcing original parts. If they cannot source oriiginal parts they will not use aftermarket parts. If it gets to that point I am bringing it home and then looking for someone local to work on it.
They mentioned the SCV valve needs replaced. Why would they not just rebiuld it? I see people online offering to rebiuld these valves.
I am venting a bit but in the end looking to see if anyone on this forum is familiar with this tractor and the hydraulics as I may need to ask some questions if the service center hits a dead end.
Thanks for listening an let me know if you have any advice to offer.
John S.
PS - Was suggested I post this here as this tractor is Yanmar built to JD specs.

the seal kit for it seems to be available many places. RE19911

I am not a hydraulic guru but do know most all those type valves have very close tolerances. It would seem to me there are quite a few o-rings in yours and I doubt it would be that difficult to replace them. Whether that would fix it or not I don't know. I wouldn't doubt that valve in built by John Deere or subbed to some other company besides Yanmar. Just guessing, don't really know anything.

Thanks for the info. If I get it back in less than good condition either I will tear into it or find someone local who will use after market products. I know they are available, the Deere service folks won't use them in their shop. We'll see how far they get and go from there. Thakns again, all information is valued.

Your JD1050 is actually 100% made by Yanmar from Japan. OE Parts have been discontinued now for almost a decade. In application a Yanmar YM4300 is a JD1050.

The service manual is TM1192. Give a heads up if you need it.

Great info. I do have the JD manuals, but if I understand what you are saying is that the TM1192 manual would list the Yanmar parts which may be still available? If that is the case then yes I would be interested. Or if not the case then set me straight.

Thanks

I've sent you a PM.

You may be correct but I doubt very seriously the loader and controls are 100% Yanmar and that is where the problem lies.

In order to help, we will need some more information. Saying, "Hydraulic problems" is too general. Can you be more specific?
And when you refer to parts, saying SCV valve is also a bit too general. The "CV" just means Control Valve. The first letter usually refers to what system the hydraulic valve is controlling, but in this case all we know is that the system starts with the letter S.

In the last 15/20 years, diesel emissions have become one of the most important and troublesome part of tractor mechanical systems and that has led to a lot of changes. To today's mechanic if you say "SCV valve" his first thought will be that you are referring to a Suction Control component in the common rail injector system used on most tractors today. If he is under 35 he may have never heard the term used for a Steering Control Valve.... which is a component in the steering that used to be very troublesome on older tractors but now is much less so.
I'm going to assume you mean the Steering Control Valve. Let me know if not.

Some History: Yanmar had trouble with their power steering valves being leaky up until the advent of the YM276/YM336 in the early 1980s. But the YD1050 is based on an earlier Yanmar and at least some 1050s used an older type power steering system with seal flaws. Maybe they all did... I followed the smaller Yanmars that were built for JD, but not the larger ones. There were aftermarket power steering systems for the smaller JD650 and up.

Yes, it's unfortunate for many owners that Yanmar has chosen to continue parts support for old Yanmars but not for the tractors they built for JD. That whole deal didn't work out so well. Not for JD, nor for Yanmar, or for the USA Yanmar dealers who were shafted by both companies.

But in spite of that, the JD1050 was a wonderful tractor and still is. It's one of my favorites, and well worth the effort to put it in shape.
