I can understand how someone could do this in the heat and grief of the moment really sad...be careful out there..We never go in our woods out here during Deer season...unless I go out myself Deer hunting but we don't take any walks...too many city folks that will shoot at anything that moves and trespass as well..

Sad story, especially for the father/daughters family.

I have trouble understanding why you would shoot yourself though, of course I have trouble understanding why a person would just shoot at something "he thinks" is a deer.

I guess it is the best probability, sure the easy answer for the Police, My take on the article, they "believe" that is what happened.

Sad any way you look at it though.

Sad Indeed, I had a Friend killed while hunting too. he was getting on his 4 wheeler and was shot by another hunter putting his rifle across the handlebars???why?? So Useless an event. Caused by careless-ness and it goes on every day and in most states, while hunting?

Opps , sorry I did not see that it had already been posted...hard to see them all..
Don't worry, I was just pointing out other people's view on the same topic...

I think I'm for and against what you said... :ashamed: While I hunt to put *extra* meat on the table, I try to be as careful as I can but accidents happen (like putting your gun away) but pulling the trigger on something that you do NOT have a clear vision on... I don't understand.

Would rather let a deer go if I don't have a VERY clear shot of what I'm shooting.

I do eat a lot of deer meat... so I don't agree on the "useless an event" comment...

Do you realize how many idiots are out there that practice a long range shot for hunting but NEVER take another set of glass out with them while hunting other than the scope on their rifle?

let one hunter make a mistake and it is national news, now according to some the woods is an unsafe place to go. 'Stay out people are being shot' 'This should be stopped' "bullets whizzing by your head every time you go into the yard, get in a bunker till they stop this terrible sport of hunting'
I guess all of the above comments were made while driving down the road texting and talking on cell phones while causing the 32000 plus highway deaths per year, which never even get mentioned on the national news. Or perhaps they were made by the parents watching high school football which has had 712 deaths by injury from 1945 to 1999 not to mention the crippling injuries.

That is a very sad story, and I hope it makes more people think, and make sure they know what they're doing when they go out hunting, so nothing like that ever happens again.
