I am getting ready to buy a 6 ft. rotary cutter and am leaning towards a Brown 416 or a Bush Hog BH26. Not to sure about other brands and am hesitant in buying used. I hate buying things twice so I have written off buying any light duty mowers.

Would like to hear input on these two mowers and what others I should add to my list.

I have a Kubota L5740 and have 10 acres that needs regular mowing, more Bahia grass than brush, but don't want to get a finish mower.

Thanks for the input!

Steve

I run a 6ft wide bushhog behind my KUBOTA L3200 4wd HST.

Glad I went with 6ft width and not smaller. Cutting heavy brush 5' high, sugar cane that's 10' high, rye and other heavy grasses. Love it, no problems, just keep the blades sharp and slow down when needed.

What model do you have?

Recently purchased Bush Hog BH16 six foot rotary mower. Spent four hours yesterday on it. Very impressed. It replaced a light duty 5 foot Big Bee rotary mower. What a difference! While the BH is only one foot wider the much heavier blades cut so much better. I did lots of research and narrowed it to Bush Hog, Rhino, Everythingattachments, and Brown. Finding a BH16 in Kubota orange sealed the deal

Just bought a bh26 bush hog. Don't have it yet but went with it because it has a heavier gearbox and have always had good luck with bush hog. Pull it with a bobcat ct450.

I went with Woods because of the way the blades mount. Easy off & on for sharpening / replacing. Also the deck was shaped to repel water and is heavy duty. I have a BB600. (5 ft)

I bought a Land Pride RCR2672 with slip clutch and chain guards front and rear several years ago. I used it was my L5030HSTC then for the last two years on my L5740HSTC cutting a combination of fescue, warm season grasses as well as brush and saplings up to 3" and have been very satisfied. We also use a Woods DS1260 on another tractor. The other brands make good cutters as well, this is just what I chose.

Why 6' for 10 acres? You can handle bigger.

I've been drooling over the woods 12' batwing :)

Just bought a used Brown 472. That was the model prior to the 416. Specs on both BH 26 and Brown 416 are similar. If dealer support is a wash either one would serve you well. Both are fine cutters.

I have a Brown 472 mower, which is the predecessor to the 416. The main difference is that the 416 is now quick hitch compatible. I am very happy with the durability of my 10 year old mower, I can't comment on the "finish cut" for field grass as I mostly only use it more for "clearing" than mowing. I mow mostly saplings with the occasional small tree thrown in there as long as I can bend it over backing into.

If I were to buy a new rotary mower, I would buy another Brown unit. I'm also extremely satisfied with the customer service from when I've called and had questions.

I've never used a Landpride, Bush Hog, or any other type of mower besides Woods. I wouldn't hesitate to go with any of them as long as you stick with the medium duty class your looking at. With the exception of Brown, all of the manufacturers make light duty rotary mowers that won't last nearly as long as the medium duty.

You can't go wrong with either of the ones your considering. I do believe the Brown unit uses thicker steel than Bush Hog, but you should confirm that as it's been a while since I've looked at the specs.
