Kubota L4400 4wd w/LA 703 FEL
I saw the plow pictured below at the local tractor dealership. Plaque on the vertical strut says "Ferguson" I couldn't read the other numbers on the plaque. Price is marked $295. Front coulter is new. One moldboard has "Ford" stamped on the back. The other has a diamond with some initials in it stamped on the back. Furrow wheel is there but can't be seen in the picture. Shares look good. No excessive rust. No evidence of any major structural repairs. There is a small brace missing from behind the lower edge of the front moldboard. The main rear brace is there.

I have access to a more modern no-name 2 bottom plow but it is community property, has been much abused on tractors too big for the plow and which really does not pull well.

I'm looking for a usable plow. Not planning on a restoration, don't care if parts are original or not. Tractor is 45hp, 4wd, no problems pulling the 2 bottom piece of junk I have now.

So, the questions are: Is this a decent plow? Do these pull well? Parts hard to find? How old? (Marked Ferguson, not M-F). Worth $295?

Finally, what does the furrow wheel do?

Any help or opinions much appreciated.

Also, as you can see in the picture, the main beam sticks out way forward of the 3 pt hitch points. Will this be a clearance issue?

We used a Ferguson with our MF 35 just fine. But with the newer tractors, there is not enough clearance from the 3 point hook up to the PTO shaft with the front coulter so far forward. It almost always hits and has knocked off a couple zerks on the arm adjuster. So it pretty much sits. It also sits because it is very tough to find plow shares for it. They are a special one piece item. Check to see what kind of shares it uses if you plan on using it much and be sure the current shares are in good shape if you will only use it once or twice a year for a small garden. If you will be plowing several acres, probably want to keep looking. Furrow wheel helps keep the depth somewhat constant if you do not have draft on the tractor 3 point. Good luck.

I have the same exact plow and pull behind my Kubota L4240.Before that with a L3130 and before that a 9N and 8N.I do about ten acres a year with mine. That's a good price for that plow;they are $400-$500 in good shape around here.

Just sent you a private message. Had one comment. The one you pictured doesn't appear to have any trip protection. I strongly recommend waiting for one with this feature. I bought a two bottom ford without protection and carefully restored it. I broke and bent it the first time I used it. Repaired it and promptly did it again. my next plow has shear pin protection and it seems necessary, at least in the soil I plow.

Good point. The junk 2 bottom plow that I have has shear pins. I've broken them several times. With that and the fitment issues mentioned by Fossil Farm I think I'll leave this one alone. The one I have will work it just takes forever to get it set up right.
