Does anyone know what dealer invoice pricing is off retail? I know typically that 15%-18% off retail is a pretty good deal, so the dealer must get it another 10% off or so. Does Deere have hold backs like car manufactures do?

Do not know exactly how it works, but when I bought my JD 4700 right about Christmas time, the dealer was anxious and made me an excellent deal. Told me that after my sale he only needed 1 more to qualify for the next "tier". So there must be some kind of incentive.

Funny thing was while negotiating, I asked him for his best cash price. He looked at me kind of funny and said nobody asks that anymore, they just want to negotiate the payment. Told him there would be no payment, just give me your best deal, and he did!

typically entry level units will have less margin from the mfg than premium machines will so can expect differences in the discount from list.

I don't know about the tractor business, but I did own a Marine/Snowmobile dealership for 30 years, and by the time I finally retired, I had a hard time trying to sort out pricing.

There was a published dealer price list, and a suggested retail price list. Neither made any sense. Everything depended on rebates, dealer holdbacks, unit volumes, etc, and to make it worse, rebates were forever changing, and never applied accross the board, only to specific models, and only for specific time frames. Pricing was an absolute nightmare.

By the end, it pretty much got down to where you sold a unit, and waited for the rebates, holdbacks etc to come in a hoped like **** you ended up with a profit. Sure glad I'm out of that rat race.

My dad had a buddy that owned a Deere Dealer. He got a European vacation one year because his dealership sold so much equipment. I'm sure there is some cash (Hold back) advantages too.
