Anyone have one in your truck? Please talk about it if you do. I have never seen one except in a patrol car. The first place I looked on-line was Dash Cam and it had something in it that AVG (anti virus detection - free edition) did not like. Are there ones that the lens can see 360 degrees?

2nd the GoPro. Use it on my bike for road trips. Amazing views and it picks up those things on the road you didn't see. The new versions I believe the new HERO3 has a wide angle view around 160degrees. Even if you had a single camera that shot front and rear, how would you view it? You can only watch one direction at a time.

I know a lot of guys in my bmw club use "dash cams" (although not mounted on the dash) for when they drive at the track.... quick google search of racetrack camera lists a whole bunch of camera systems designed for in car use.

most seem to be GoPro variants.

The GoPro looks like the thing to own if I was more of a camera buff. I am looking for something I can set on the dash, plug it in and forget about it until I/it witness an accident.

Thats going to take significantly more hardware setup. Most of the dash cams i know of are just souped up camcorders of some sort. None are smart enough to turn on/off with the car and or overwrite the video when the memory card is full.

Seriously, the go pro is probably your best bet.

That's okay, I would rather turn it on/off myself. Maybe I can use the same power port that my gps is plugged into. I would hate to lose something important because it started overwriting on its own.

I would like to take a look at GoPro, is there a large chain/box store that sells them or is it an internet only thing?

Storage capacity is the limiting factor on the NoPro. Good for clips and stints but the long term dash cams use hard drive storage of 500 GB - 1TB on up.
