Has anyone attempted to adjust the valves on their Daedong powered tractor? I recently got a svc manual and it looks fairly easy so I think I'll give it a whirl. I'm at approx 435 hrs on a FT 270 with the Daedong 3A139 engine.

My Kioti calls for adjustment at 800 hours.

My DK45 has a bit of a tick when cold so I bought the coupler that the manual specs to cut in half and weld to a socket to turn the crank.

I have not had the time to do that yet as other projects on the farm keep absorbing the available work time.

I am thinking the FEL needs to come off to allow easier access to the engine.

Not sure if it is normal or not. I went back to the dealer and we fired up a new dk45 on the lot and it did not have any tick. Dealer says diesels make noises and this is my first deisel of any type so it may just be me being overly cautious.
On mine the sound seems to come and go and is definitely much less to nonexistant in warm weather and when the fuel tank is half way full or more. At any rate it starts right up, runs fine, does not smoke and does not burn oil.

I thought that was normal. Goes away when warmed up right? Or am I thinking of the cold "knock" that disappears?

Whenever I haven't been on my tractor for a while and have just started it up cold I am always more aware of knocking noises but I'm pretty sure these are just normal sounds coming from a cold diesel. If I haven't run it for a week or so I often get a few seconds of white smoke too. As in your case, the tractor starts right up and works fine and after a few minutes I seem to notice the knocking less so I've always attributed these sounds and smoke as normal diesel engine behavior.

I have no idea what it would sound like or if the engine would behave differently if the valves needed readjustment.

My CK30 has 787 hours on it now and will be due for the first valve adjustment at 800. I'll price it out at the dealership since this is not something that I want to screw up. I can adjust valves, I do my motorcycle valve lash but the tractor is a bit more costly and if special tools are required then it will likely be a good chance to support my local dealer.

Chinese section has some pretty good info on setting valve lash.

Its not hard, hard part is getting in your head how pistons are going up/down,exhaust and compression cycles. Plus you gotta know intake from exhaust valve,[if they are gapped different.]

But you gotta be able to turn motor over by hand,if you can get a socket on crank pully, behind raditiator, its not hard to do,some tighten alt belt up real tight and turn it over that way.

400 Hours seems to early to have to do it though, but if its making loud noises, maybe best to be safe than sorry.

Only part you should need is new valve cover gasket.

Looking at the service manual it has removal of the glow plugs as step #1. I figure I can jack up the rear end and with tractor in gear spin the rear wheels to align the timing mark. Indeed, the lash is different on the ex and in valves. What makes me think I need a valve adjustment is a slight power loss after things really get warmed up. After an hour or so of finish mowing I lose maybe a hundred rpm or so at WOT going up an incline. I can still maintain the 540 rpm at PTO but I have a few extra RPM before it really gets warmed up.

One thought for you is cutting off fuel,if its got a fuel stop kill thing, than you can just tie it back,if not look on pump,[never tested this myself on mine, but] there appears to be the shut off lever there, but its not hooked up on mine, point being, you will be turning it over, and probably key would stop it from starting, but to be on safe side pull that fuel cut off,[plus it will just
pump fuel in that won't be burnt,[no mechanic,so],just was thinking out loud.

Removing the glow plugs will stop cylinder compression and make it easier to turn it over,if you do that, might be able to just turn it over with fan,[if you can't get a socket on crank pully with out taking raditiator off.
