OK, I have a cyl. on my log splitter that is approximately a 4" bore, 30" stroke. It is leaking at the rod end, I have had this cylinder apart so I know how to do that. My basic question is where to go for repair parts, I have no idea what brand cylinder it is. I have a decent farm store nearby and I was thinking I could start there. How do I measure for size O rings?
Would NAPA have seals and O rings?
thanks,
dave

Find a local hydraulic repair shop.....and have it apart when you drive there, and bring it all disassembled (including the nut off the hyd rod)

They'll have everything you need (and maybe some advice)

Don't bother with the farm store or Napa

wdchyd, I appreciate your insight. When I say farm store, it's a farm equipment dealer and repair place. They sell Kubota, another brand and used equipment. As far as I know there are no repair centers within 50 miles. What are your thoughts on surplus supply? Once I know what I need, or think I need.
thanks,
dave

If the local dealer has repair/packing kits for your cylinder, pick it up. For my 4" x 24" cylinder the kit is less than $15. This is an OEM (original equipment manufacture) kit.

I'll check when I get it home, it's still at the woodlot.
Here is a picture of it.

Well I got the splitter home and in the garage (a step in the right direction), I'm hoping tomorrow I can get it taken apart and see what's what.
I'll keep ya posted!

OK, farm supply is clueless unless you have manufacturer, model etc. of equipment! OH well.
Bill, I'm going to send you what I have and I'll post some pics here in a few minutes. It looks like I need an outer wiper, some sort of gland on the rod end and an O ring.
Wiper is same diameter as gland/seal. I think I am leaving the piston end alone for now, it appears to be in good shape. It has a wrap around band and a thin hard flat ring type thing. It's a 4" bore and a 1 3/4" rod.
thanks,
dave

I know pictures aren't the greatest but I think you get the idea.

yep, easy stuff....I have all that in stock

the piston seal is a two piece Teflon ( Ps1400-64 - Hercules Sealing Products )....$7.16

Not sure which wear band you have but guessing it is .125 thick x .625 or .750 wide ( $5.27 vs $4.93)

All in stock

Couldn't make out the gland but looked like rust in the seal groove, polish it good till the rust disappears

Looking at the wear band again, it could be Teflon wear band tape....if so you can reverse it to give it the clean side....or I have some of that in stock
