I inherited my CR from the previous owner of my house 7 years ago so its about 10+ yrs old. Tecumseh engine that CR doesn't use anymore so no replacement parts. last weekend I lost the gas cap and was in the middle of the big leaf pick up for the season. not universal so my temp fix was a ziplock bag with a rubber band. just wanted to get thru the season and it worked that way for hours. this weekend, it blew up. literally something blew and oil spewed all over the back of my tractor. I guess that was a bad idea. will call CR Monday, but is it possible to just get a new engine. not sure repair costs would be any less so new seems appealing if I don't have to replace the whole system. Everything else still has some life left in it. if so what would it be if the Tecumseh isn't an option thru CR anymore.

I wouldn't think there would be much problem fitting a Briggs or similar horizontal shaft engine on it, as long as it was in the same engine class as the old Tecumseh, as long as the base mounting holes and shaft size were the same
