cutting deck height setting ...?

Hi there. We're having trouble setting the slasher deck (Kanga 'M' Series 1.8 metre). When we adjust it to a suitable height so it is not touching the ground, it creeps back down. Is this normal & just a process of the hydraulics seeping, or is there a way to prevent this and somehow lock the deck at a set height. We have a heavy duty wheel that can be attached out from the rear. Perhaps this is the solution. Thanks for all the advice thus far - very useful. Cheers, Ged

Installing a backwheel might slow the leakdown on your 3pt lift with less backpressure on your cylinder. Without getting into your hydraulics, you might be able to jury rig another chain yoke to the front edge of your slasher to keep it from gradually leaking down. I have a similar issue with the 3pt lift on my 1951 Case. In that a slasher is a "rough" cut,I keep an eye on my slasher/brush cutter and simply adjust the height manually from the seat of my tractor as I mow. My current mode of operation would be annoying for anyone looking for a consistent level cut. Good luck.

I would think you'd want the wheel just to keep the mower from digging when your front tractor wheels go over something, or rears fall in a hole or ditch. With a trailing wheel and slack chain for a top link the deck will follow contours better. Might take a little pressure off the lower arms too.

if this is on the 4410.. and the lift drops.. I'd say it's time for a new oring on that hyd piston, and a pressure test on the system.. otherwise the age old 'limit' chains will work for you.. ie.. a bracket at the toplink, and then chains to the lower lift arms at the attachment pin.. tracto4rs with draft only hyds use those.. like ford 9n/2n and fergy t?20.. etc..
