I worked behind a parts counter most of my High School Years as well as Food Service...
One of the things that I learned is that you take care of the customer in front of you as that customer is a "Bird in the Hand"
With so much going Digital and Online it seems like old fashioned customer service is almost a thing of the past and when received it's worth remembering.
One of my senior friends was having the kids/grand kids all stop by last Saturday after one of the kids sporting events was nearby.
She said they really enjoy Pizza and asked me where she should go... I mentioned the closest is the new Pizza Hut about a mile away and that they always have specials...
She called to order 6 extra large pizzas and learned the special was for Online Orders only... said she doesn't have a computer and asked if she could just place the order and was told she could come in...
She went to the store to order and the manager said online only... she said that is why she came in because she has no computer... he said she could use her phone so she pulled out her flip phone and asked the manager to help... he said she needed a smart phone.
She then asked if he could order the pizzas and she would pay for them now in cash for delivery at 1 Saturday...
She was turned away and told they could not help her...
Half the work is getting someone to an establishment that has a desire to purchase... at least it always was that way when I was taught...
The idea of online was to generate more sales not turn sales away...
I contacted Pizza Hut corp who referred me to the store saying it was the local manager's call.... spoke to him and he said customers need to get into the modern world... I thanked him and hung up.
I wish I could say this was an isolated incidence but not in my experience...
Will say service can vary greatly... the Washington Home Depot and Lowes stores bowl me over with good service... not so much in the SF Bay Area...
