Well I am almost finished with the latest project. Hopefully the pictures work. This is a military trailer and a 6.5x10 dump body with 2-stage telescopic piston I placed on it. It is kind of high off the ground so I will have to see how that is as I use it. Also, I did check the tractor hydraulics with it raised and it does go below the the dipstick, but as long as I don't drive it around I should be fine because level is plenty with the dump body down. My only other worry is if it becomes heavy in the rear when raised, my 3pt hitch may want to raise up, I know my old NH 2120 tractor would do that. I can always chain it to the draw bar to prevent though.

Oooh, jealous! I like the high bed unless you're loading it by hand. Helps with a clean dump-out without bashing the trailer. Looks like it might get a little front-light during dumping - I'd chain the front down first. Was that cylinder something you had? Nice.

Looks good, but I too would chain the front down to start with before I found out the hard way that the chain was indeed needed.

Better safe than sorry. ;)

It really wasn't that bad to make, I had it easy. I got the body from a guy who works and had it stored at the Freightliner dealer Westfield, MA. He had it on a chevy or gmc 1 ton. It had the subframe and piston with it, and I had to do minimum fab work to get it to sit down on the trailer frame and just welded it on.

When I lift it up and it gets to the 2nd stage of the cylinder, you can see the front of the trailer get light but it holds it. I will chain it for sure if I have a load in it. It goes quite steep I noticed, the pic is probably up only 1/2 way through the 2nd stage.

I really like the dump angle you have. Wouldn't be hard to run a chain to your draw bar. The high center of gravity may be an issue on hilly terrain but that is more of a common sense thing. Do you move a fifth wheel trailer around with the ball on the top of your hitch? I have not heard of an external reservoir for existing tractor hydraulic systems, only add on's for use with a different pump. That cylinder must have quite the volume requirements...???

Yep, I move my gooseneck trailer around with it. I had made a little smaller cat I version with my last tractor and I then made an even larger heavier cat II one with this new tractor. It is much heavier than the northern tool one. Plus I put hooks on it and it works great for skidding logs as well. Probably my 3pt piece of equipment that gets the most use.

Yea, i'm thinking it is pretty high volume but i'm not sure the details.

lets be honest... the true ultimate off road trailer would include a pto driven rear axle that matches the ground speed of the tractor!

Pretty neat. One question though. Did you flush out the hydraulic oil on the cylinder before you mixed it in with your tractor fluid and possibly contaminated it?

Oh yea, I didn't per say flush it with anything, but I took the piston with no hose and compressed it all the way and cycled it a bunch of times to get what was in there out. It looked really clean, but it was a red ATF type fluid. Should I have tried to flush it even better? What would a little trace amount do to my tractor?
