So the local hydraulic shop just called - they finished rebuilding my leaky LA853 curl cylinders. One had a pretty bad score in the bore, the other had slightly leaking piston seals, so they honed the scored one and rebuilt them both. Aftermarket (not Kubota) seal kits. Total proce of $240 for both. I figured that was a pretty good price considering that Kubota seal kits alone were about $50 (or much more depending on loader serial number).

I'm a little disappointed that this was necessary at under 500 hours. I have been meticulous about keeping the hydraulic fluid changed and clean, so I'm confused about how the cylinder bore got scored.

One mistake I made was welding in the shop without being careful to cover the cylinder surfaces. Some sparks flew and burned blemishes in the cylinder. I was able to touch them up with a really fine stone. The other thing that can cause scoring is 10 year old boys doing everything they're not supposed to, if you have any around I'd begin the interrogation there.
