Curious about a Claas round baler. Seems the company is down under and has been in business for 100 years. Size is variant 180. Any body know what size bale it wraps. If you give me numbers, please indicate which number is diameter and which is length.

Thanks,
Mark

Claas is a German company.

The only specs I found are in meters but it bales approximately up to 5'7"h x 4'w.

Claas is a German Company with a very long history in grain, hay and straw harvesting/handling.
The Variant is a reasonably recent addition to the Claas range of round balers using a belt system as opposed to the Rollant range of balers that uses a roller system. One thing I have noticed on all Claas round balers is tat the bales have a hard centre ie they are perfectly formed right from the centre with no loose hay in the centre. Bale sizes on the Variant are from 0.9 metres(3 feet) diameter up to 1.8 metres (6 feet) dia on a width of 1.2 metres (4 feet) .These conversions are approximate the correct conversion is 1 foot equals 305 mm or 0.305 metres.
So 1.8 metres is actually 5 feet 10 3/4 inches.

If you go to
http:CLAAS Group - Balers

you can find a brief outline of various highlights in the firm's history of making balers and binders.

I'm curious why you're interested in a Claas instead of a JD? I know you already own a JD rd baler so are you having problems with it? The JD rd balers with a monitor are very easy to operate and when operated correctly make a very good bale of hay.

Simple answer Jim.

The local auction/sale yard has a Claas baler for sale at $5k. I have my 5x4 in tip top shape with new tires, new level rollers, new belt pins, chains, belts, and bearings are all good to go and all that but I just keep thinking that I would prefer a 4x6.....like most folks, never happy. I had a small hay crop this year and bought some 4x6 bales (which I started using last week) and they got me to thinking. There are no JD balers available at this time near here. Course my tractor handles the current bales just fine and I would assume the larger diameter would require more hp and probably weighs a couple hundred pounds more. It does interfere with me seeing around the bale when on the FEL and if on the rear spike and raised it will hit my rear window if open.

I like the 5x4 bales for a lot of reasons and probably will stay with it. I like JD balers having had 3. Other thing is my 375 is a self contained unit, all functions are manual and monitors are on the baler....no wiring harness and dash monitor and I like that.

Thanks for the concern.
