I am looking for a culti packer, and saw on the Leinbach web sit they come with smooth wheels, or with sprocket wheels. What is the difference, or advantage of the two?

I have owned both kind. The smooth wheels will do the job. The ones with every other wheel , a sproket wheel is suppose to do a little better in sandy or real fine soil. The 3 pt. hitch is handy, but most people like the pull type better. They seem to have more weight on them.

Wondering if I might already have a cultipacker.
Have this hitch type, ballpark 8" in diameter long cylinder type wheel that looks like it could be pulled behind a tractor. Looks very heavy however. It has a smooth surface and it's black... possibly some sort of rubber. Pretty wide, say 10 to 12 ft. Any idea what it is?
Just FYI... I'm from the Camden SC area... work in Columbia. Just thought it Interesting 3 from SC in one thread.

Nope, no pictures. Too lazy to figure out how to take them, then to post them.

Right now I'm trying to make up my mind what kind of tractor to buy.
Maybe in a couple weeks when I get ready to plant.....

Thanks for the info. How hard do you think it would be to turn it into a 3 point hitch hook up? or is this possible?

If you have all the usual metalworking stuff, I bet you could convert a pull type cultipacker over to a 3pt hitch. Of course you might have to brace up the support framework to support the weight when it was off the ground. I did see a 3pt cultipacker on craigslist too, I will look back and see if I can find it again. If I do, I will give you the link in a private message.

Bairman, you have another private message.

Thanks again for the info. Does anyone know of the Chattanooga brand cultipacker? I saw one earlier, but can not find anything on the internet about them.

I have bought and sold 3 or 4 Chattanooga cultipackers. They are old ,but heavy and well built. All of them have been the pull type. They usually have a different type of connection on the end of the tongue.
