How Much does the cub gt2544 cost? How does it compare to the ltx 1040?

I paid $3800 for mine three years ago this month. Overall, it's a much heavier-duty unit than the 1000-series. The transmission is fully-servicable (fluid changes and filter changes). Best of all, power to the transmission is shaft-drive rather than belt-drive.

Unlike the 1000-series, it's rated for and designed to pull ground-engaging implements. IOW, it's not just a lawn mower, but it can do a few low-end tractor jobs as long as you're not expecting full tractor capability. With wheel chains and some weights it will do a very good job pushing a PTO-powered snowblower if you're in snow territory.

I had a LT1040 42" 19hp from 2005-2010 that was a good mower for my 1/2 acre yard. Used it for 5 years and only replaced one belt. However when I began using it on a 1.5 acre lot with more hills, I knew that I had better upgrade or risk wearing it out quickly. As Captain Ned explained, the 2500 series is a much heavier duty small tractor. I paid $3900 for my GT2550 in 2010. The twin cylinder Kohler is much stronger and smoother than the single cylinder Courage model. The engine pulls smooth in heavy grass and hardly changes in sound. The drivetrain is much stronger and the deck has a better discharge.

I sold my LT1042 to a co-worker and it has given him 2 seasons of trouble free mowing and is still a good mower.

You pay twice as much to move up to the 2500 series but it is twice the tractor. Now it is the 2000 series and higher priced yet.
