From AgWeb.com, story dated 2/9/07:

Cub Cadet® and Yanmar® Join Forces
Bob Coffman

Cub Cadet® and Japanese engine maker Yanmar® have formed a joint venture to market a full line of compact utility tractors and implements in the U.S. and Canada. The joint venture has lead to the formation of C.U.T. Supply Company, LLC, headquartered in Valley City, Ohio.

Cub Cadet is a familiar name with its line of premium outdoor power equipment. Since 1961, Cub Cadet has been meeting the needs of rural and suburban landowners, while keeping one simple promise -- to build it better.

Yanmar Co., Ltd., with global headquarters in Osaka, Japan, was established in 1912, and became the world's first manufacturer to develop a practical small diesel engine in 1933, and has had its own line of compact utility tractors and agricultural equipment.

Sounds to me like it is the first time in MTD/CC history that they are actually hooked up with a compact tractor supplier that CAN build it better :)

It is the best move CC has made if they want to keep or attract new compact tractor buyers/owners. Hopefully dealership mechainics will take the time to get proper factory training for servicing to keep the ball rolling in service after the sale also.

I have a funny feeling MTD watches and reads this site a lot. Not only regarding the quality issues with past compacts, but I see they are also emphasizing the hill climbing abilities of their new i1000 LGT's, recognizing some of their other LGT models have been a little lack luster in that category. Looks like they are turning things around for the better and going in the right direction again :)

If CUb Cadet watches this website....

Please go to the JD website and take a good look, it would be nice if we could "build" tractors on the Cub site, get better info on attachments, and get a good idea of the price for the tractor with the attachments we want.

The Cub site has come a long way, but still has a long way to go.

I'm a huge Cub Cadet fan, I own three of them...I am even putting off my purchase of a Sub-Cut or a CUT to see what they come out with in this new merger or joint venture.

Yes, a much better website would also go a long way for Cub Cadet. I'm just wishfully thinking MTD will get CC truly back in the ball game for high end machines and concentrate less on their throwaway lines. Yanmar has made great tractors, and I'm sure they are not going to spoil their reputation by making a cheaped out CUT lineup for MTD.

We will know if they are listening and reading if the melting hoods and mufflers burning grass problems (also a potential safety/fire hazard) problems are addressed on '07 2500 and 3000 series LGT's. I really hope so. -Fordlords-

I wish they would put in a plant near me building tractors. I could use an interesting job like that. Wonder why some of the more popular japanese/chinese/korean car manufacturers don't partner with the tractor makers. I guess Ford was the only brand that made vehicles and tractors.

I hope Yanmar at least builds the Cub 5000 series. The whole tractor, not just the engine. The 5000 series needs a lot of help.

Actually there have been many tractor/vechicle makers over the years. Lamborghini,Volvo,Valmet,Porsche,British Leyland,Renault,Hyundai,Mitsubishi,Case,International Harvester,Fiat, and others I'm sure that I'm missing

Mahindra builds cars for Ford Motor company that are sold in the european market, and they build diesel powered pickups and SUV's that will soon be released here in the states, and of coarse they build tractors.

I do believe all the small LGT's that were ever produced with a Ford badge on them were made for Ford by other manufacturers, the most popular supplier being Jacobsen. Farm tractors were a different story. I do agree Yanmar needs to supply the whole tractor for CC, not just engines. Cub would have saved money and customers in the past building a quality CUT under their own roof in the USA rather than by jumping from one inferior supplier to another. If Cub can't do it right with Yanmar, their name no longer has a prayer in the CUT market IMHO. I'm sure many of us remember the International Scout truck before things like it were called SUV's. It was an infamous rust-bucket mistake that helped bring International Harvester to its knees in the late 1970's, and likely one of the reasons IH sold Cub Cadet to MTD. -Fordlords-
