Cub Cadet Tank

Good Morning All, I have a Cub Cadet Tank with a 25hp Kawasaki that is giving me problems. First I should say I am a machinist not a mechanic. The problem I am having is that it will start sometimes but will not keep running. Then I decided to feed gas into the carb from a small bucket well as long as I do that it will keep running. I have checked and the pump is pumping strong and the gas gets into the carb bowl. Is that a switch of some kind that is wired into the carb? Could that be my problem? Or should I do a rebuild on the carb? Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Where did you hook your bucket of fuel up to? I guess what I need to know is what part of the system was bypassed by your gravity feeding. If you hooked it up directly to the carb bypassing the fuel pump and filter then I'd say your problem is not in the carb and I would start by replacing all the fuel lines plus the filter. You may have a internally collasped section of line restricting flow or one may be cracked sucking air.

I ended up just trickling the gas in where the air filter assembly attaches. Is that some kind of solenoid switch on the carb? I will check the hoses.

Yes, its a fuel shut-off solenoid on the carb. If its working you should feel or hear it click if you apply 12 volts + to the wire. Has this engine been sitting for a while and the fuel in the carb had turned to varnish?

Also what is the model number of the engine? I might have a service manual.

I just checked the solenoid and as soon as I turn the key on it clicks. The engine will fire up for a couple of seconds and dies. The numbers I find on the engine are, code FH721V-CS26-R and E/NO FH721VB42930. Thank you for all of this information.

The first place I'd look once I had the carb off is at the float valve. It may just be stuck closed. The fuel today with alcohol in it absorbs water and starts to break down after about 30 days. The water will corrode the carb and you will see white crusty deposits in the bowl. If left to corrode further the float valve gets frozen in place and may only allow a very small amount of fuel in.

Yep, I've fixed a cpl pieces of equipment now where the E10 fuel turned to a thick green liquid/goo if left sit in a gas tank for a year or more. Sealed up in your fuel storage can, it will last a long time. In a vented fuel system E10 degrades quickly as OM said. Older equipment with gas VERY open to the atmosphere are most vulnerable.
