Tractor
Kubota BX 1500,Cub Cadet LTX 1042
I'm looking at a Cub Cadet LTYX 1040 to replace the lawn tractor I use for mowing around the house. How reliable are they? Also looking at a snow thrower attachment(190-032) for it but didn't see a price for it anywhere. Anyone know how much the snow thrower is. The price for the tractor was $1499.00(on sale) which seem reasonable to me.

Thanks in advance.

I purchased a LTX 1040 about 2 months ago, It's a great tractor for the money. If I were you I'd go for it. They're very reliable. If you're gonna snow blow with it, You may want to consider some kind of protection for the lights, The bulbs burn hot, the snow gets in between the cracks of the lights, gets into the bulbs and breaks them becuase of the contact of heat and cold.

I went to the local Cub Cadet dealer. He informed me that he does not and will not sell the LTX 1040. Too many problems with the drivetrain. He suggested the LTX 1042.

My dealer is the same way. He doesn't want anything to do with CVT transmissions because of past experiences.

Maybe their made better now?

Could very well be. I know they're supposed to be going with a new type of CVT from Torotrak. If that is in the new 1040's, then it should be a big improvement.

It sounds as though there are a lot of dealers out there with some "experiences" with the CVT transmission. My dealer doesn't stock them either because he said in the past his customers only got about 200-300 hours on them before the gears wore out. I'd imagine that adding a snowblower would only add that much more stress.

Follow up: I went with the LTX 1042(delivered last Friday) I traded in my 9 year old Craftsman LT for a back blade for my Kubota.

How is that tractor treating you? I am looking at buying the LTX 1042 to maintain 2.4 mostly flat acres with many trees. Your opinions would be appreciated.

ravenchris - I had a lt1042 for several years - found it to be a good light duty lawn tractor. But, 2.4 acres and a "hint" of some hills/dips and a bunch of trees, you may be stretching the lt1042's staying power. Suggest looking up iinto the 2000 series for a stronger machine with a wider deck. More $ up front, but satisfaction later...

I would have to agree with rcbe 2.4acres seems a bit much for that tractor? If you can swing it i would go up to the 2500's also.Maybe even the Gt1554 i had the 07 just sold it lately. It worked great for me and you would like the 54" deck. But if it were me i would try and swing the 2500.
