Cub Cadet electric pressure washer

I know this is a tractor forum, but I thought I'd give this a shot. I got a free electric pressure washer when I bought my 3240 a few years ago. It was a CC promo running at the time.

It has developed a problem this year and I can't seem to figure out what is going on. When I hold the trigger in it sprays fine and pumps strong. But when I let off the trigger, it "surges" on and off about every second. It's like it can't hold the pressure. After a few seconds of this, if I don't pull the trigger again, it shuts itself off. Then I have to turn the power switch off and back on to get it to work again.

Any ideas what this could be? Is there an adjustment that needs to be made, or a part that needs replaced?

On my Elec power washer, almost same problem, but I have to cut the water to the unit off, I have a ball valve on the intake, and then it starts up working. Almost as too much pressure, won't alow the unit to work OK. any way it will be washing just fine, and I stop, for a second, and then it won't start again, have to shut the water ball valve, and presto its working again. Mine is a Campble Shell, wal-mart special, 14oo psi.
