Cub Cadet 6284 PTO Troubles

I Have a chance to get a Cub Cadet 6284 with 252.9 hours.
The trouble is the PTO is not working.Talking to several dealers they tell me (1) the clutch is out (2) a spring is broke in the transmission. both say the parts are not very costly but the labor is. The unit has a belly mount mower and
a rear PTO. Any thoughts on the value as is. Thanks Steven Jencso

I'll give you my .02 cents worth.
I have a 6284, along with 3 other pre-Yanmar Cubs. Cub (and subsequent sellers) have been selling them pretty cheaply to clear the books.
Cub made them from 05-07. Not knowing what year yours is, what condition, or asking price.....also would you be doing the work yourself or thru a dealer? Big difference in cost. Low blue book for a 2006 w/o mower is around 7500-8K. With the work needing to be done, I'd estimate somewhere in the 6-7000 range would be an OK deal. I could be off a bit, but that's what I'd look for. It's a solid tractor, definitely beefier than my 5234 series. Don't buy it if you're going to keep it outside in a cold environment (God forbid!) ....the little cat doesn't like real cold weather.
This also begs the question...how did it break? From the factory? Assuming all they did was mow with it, or did they overload the rear PTO?
