Hello, I'm trying to find out what might be wrong with my dad's little tractor. The hydro trans works but the power steering and the lift are really slow. The steering is like a manual steering. I have looked up some things and don't really find anything about it. I am thinking about changing the hydro filter first. Any ideas with this I would appreciate.

Do you have a separate pump for the attachments, or is all the hyd from the hyd trans?

Check and see if there is a sump filter.

Thanks J J, from what I find out on this is, there is two pumps for say. You have a main pump and a charge pump. I am not sure what a charge pump does, I don't have a manual for this particularl one. I found a hydraulic diagram for another cub cadet I believe it was a 882? It looks to be same. It shows a flow diagram with a charge pump. I asked my dad what kind of hydraulic fluid he put in it this spring when he changed it and he didn't put the cub cadet hydro oil he put universal hydro trans oil from Tractor Supply. I don't know the difference between the two.

The charge pump is what keeps the hydro full, and is sometimes used for aux hyd, which they may be doing with your hyd system.

If in fact you have two pumps, it may be a PS pump only with different pressures.

You may be able to follow the hyd lines and see where they originate.

Ok, I called my father and had him look at it for me. The charge pump is driving the lift and power steering. In the morning I will go get some Cub Cadet filter for it and change it out. I told him to get the Cub Cadet hydro trans oil for it this spring when we put it together after we painted it. Do you know if the type of oil makes that big of a difference?

I would call the dealer or parts guy and see what the book says.

If you know what the pressure is supposed to be, the you can insert a hyd gage and check the pressure.
