cub cadet 1554 slow cranking

I have a cub cadet 1554 that really struggles to start. It seems like the battery is low and struggles to turn the engine over. It has been this way for the entire summer and now will not start. I have replaced the battery and still the same issue. I am a newbie so any recommendations would really be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Just a little more information after doing some research... I jumped the started directly from the battery and had the same result. I pulled the spark plug and it cranked freely. I have seem some things about an automatic compression release but do not know where to find it or what to do with it once I find it. Any help would be appreciated.

Try jumping it from another source, like your car or truck. If you still get slow cranking, then the problem is probably the starter itself.

i HAVE A CUB CADET 1554, THAT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM, HOWEVER, MINE TEARS UP THE DRIVE BELT, A COUPLE TIMES EACH SUMMER, AND THE STEERING GEAR HAS BEEN REPLACED A COUPLE TIMES, AND WHEN THE DRIVE BELT BREAKS, IT ALSO CUTS THE PLASTIC TRANSMISSION FAN OFF. i HAD BEEN LETTING THE CUB CADET DEALERSHIP REPLACE IT, BUT AFTER THE THIRD TIME, i FINALLY DECIDED i WOULD DO JUST AS GOOD INSTALLING THE BELT. BUT, i AM NOT ANY BETTER AT IT, i HAVE INSTALLED 3 OR 4 MORE BELTS. ALSO REPLACED THE SPINDLE HOUSING ON THE DECK.....IN SHORT THESE ARE NEW CUB CADETS. ENJOY THEM

OP - what version 1554? there are GT's, SLT's, etc. What engine make/model? Have you been using a garden hose or power washer to clean it?
