Cub 7275 Unreliable Start

When I start my Cub 7275 I often have to wiggle the gear shift lever in neutral and listen to it go "click, click, click ..." until it finally roars into action. I am assuming that there is a poor connection in a switch somewhere. If so does anyone know where I would find this switch? Could it be something else, like the starter?

It's your starter drive. Mine was doing the same thing. I thought it was the solenoid. So I replaced it and it worked fine for a very short time. It is now back to the same old thing. The starter drive gear is not lining up with the flywheel gear. I am going to pull my starter out again and grind the teeth on the drive to a much sharper angle to make them engage the flywheel. Yours is not the only one doing this. I have heard of a few others. The guy I bought it from told me it was the PTO switch. Yeah right is all I have to say about that.

It might be the neutral switch lockout assuming it has one? Easy test.....just unplug the wires from the switch and hook them up directly. See what happens? I have seen this little problem once before and that switch is a lot easier to deal with than the starter. Check it first.

These tractors have that switch. But that switch doesn't make any noises. I went though that on my machine thinking it was the neutral or pto switch. They are in fact much easier to deal with than the starter.

I've seen this problem on many of these tractors. Most of the time it is actually either the mid PTO or rear PTO safety switch that is not engaged all the way. When you tractor just clicks, try holding the key turned to the start position, while you use your other hand to move your PTO engagement levers farther back in the off position. If this is your problem, then your unit will fire right up as soon as you move one of the levers. If you find one of the levers doing this, just adjust the safety switch a little closer to the lever when it is in the stop position so that it fully engages it.
