Cub 3186 Mower Deck Gearbox Oil

I have a 1999 Cub Cadet 3186 with a 190-289-100 mower deck. I dumped the mower deck gearbox oil for a change and can't find the recommended oil spec in any of my manuals. Can anyone help out with info on the correct oil type?

I don't have any direct knowledge on this machine but most gear boxes use 80-90wgt gear oil.

Mower gear boxes run hot. I use 75-90 or 80-90 synthetic gear oil in my gear boxes. I have found synthetic oil tolerates heat better than dino oil and provides better protection. One major car manufacture is now using/requiring 0-20 synthetic oil in it's vehicles. 0-20 oil???????

Thanks for the info. The oil smelled like typical gear oil but I figured it wouldn't hurt to check. I think I'll give the synthetic a try.

Use synthetic, UPS does on all delivery truck rears. UPS has the data base proving the added value is worth the extra cost. :thumbsup:

I went with Valvoline 75-90 Synthetic. From what I hear UPS has got PM figured out.

FYI: Cub Cadet Customer service ---or TOTAL LACK OF-----update:
I also submitted an on-line request to the Cub Cadet Support Center 5-04-12 requesting info on the mower deck oil type. I received a confirmation number and a promise of an answer within 3-4 days. 13 days later and still no answer. It still shows "unresolved" in my account. Maybe they can just link their site here to get some real results
