Today I was using my CT2025 and it was running great. I was using it for about and hour, then I started backing up a slight hill and it sputtered for a little bit and died. I had previously backed up a steeper hill with no problems. My initial thought was it was low on fuel because the gauge was reading under 1/4 tank on the level, so I added 5 gallons of diesel and tried to start it again. It starts right up, but sputters for a few seconds and dies.

I'm interested if anyone else has experienced this, and/or what steps I might take to resolve this issue.

Thanks.

Probably did run it out of fuel. You'll need to bleed the air out of the system. Some have a bleeder valve/knob at the pump, some you'll need to crack loose the line at the injector (one at a time).

It does sound like you ran out of fuel and now need to bleed the air from the injectors and lines.
I believe that engine is mechanical injection with gravity feed from tank, so no lift pump to help.
Your manual will have the procedure.
Good luck.

I got a new filter and installed it. Based on what the housing looked like where the filter was, it was time for a change.

Once the filter was changed I used the manual pump and opened the bleeder, but had no success. I removed the filter again and couldn't find the problem, so I pulled the fuel line from the tank off the filter housing. A bunch of sludge came out, then the fuel was flowing great, so I put it back on the housing and tried again. Still nothing.

Through more troubleshooting I ended up taking the filter housing off and using compressed air to blow out the feed line. Once that was flowing nicely, everything went back together fine and the tractor runs nicely now. :)

Does anyone run or use an inline filter before the regular fuel filter? I feel like that would prevent the inlet to the main fuel filter housing from getting clogged.

Yuck! You should add a diesel biocide, or better yet, remove the fuel tank and give it a good cleaning.
Where do you get your diesel from? Might want to check your source.
