Craigslist Scam I can't figure out

   / Craigslist Scam I can't figure out #51
There are scams that center around sending you a bad check to pay for merchandise. After you cash the check they give you some sob story about not being able to pick up the merchandise and ask for their money back. You send them a good check for the refund and then find out their check was bad. You are out the money and possibly a penalty from the bank if you overdraw the account. I'm not sure that is the scam this guy is playing, but it is for sure a scam. Don't accept any check. Even so called "certified" checks are unsafe.
You are safe asking for cash. It is the only safe option these days.

Edit: I was muddling around while Soundguy got er done.... lol

You're almost there. The main difference is that they will send you a check which is over the original amount by about 500-1000$, then they will send a follow up email saying something like

OMG I'm so sorry, I sent too much money, please send me the difference via western-union. This is scammer's money transfer web-site of choice because you won't ever see your funds again after it's sent via WU

Another method is they will send you a fake invoice from a fake escrow with a bank account of some douche bag in Russia or India, once you send the money to a fake invoice like "Yahoo auto" it's gone also.

Report these fake emails to Emailbusters.org and Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) | Home

When I post on CL I just say I don't answer to emails and ask to contact me by phone. Which cuts 99% of these time wasting scam attempts.
