Cracks in Rear Tire

Hello,

As I was inspecting the tractor today I noticed some long cracks in my right rear tire on the thick part of the tread.
Is there anything there can be done to stop this and prolong the life of the tire? I know they are expensive tires and would like to wait atleast another year to replace given that the tires appear to have a good amount of tread left.

All tractor and equipment tires will crack over time, run with them till you cant hold air, then tube them and run till they wont hold the tube, then boot them and run more. Its not unusual to see 30 year old tires on hobby farm tractors.

Keeping the out of the sun is a good way to prolong the life.

I have no experience with a boot, but what I have read is patching a side wall is dangerous...luckily I do not have this problem at he moment, it's most the treads...

Anything you put on there (special tire glue, patches etc.) won't stay on the tire. I drove over a sharp rock and it made a nice deep slice into my tire. After trying 3 different things (cheap fixes) I gave up, took the tire off and sent it away to get professionally repaired (vulcanized). That has been 2 or 3 years ago now and you can't tell where the repaired spot is. The slit never reappeared. If your tires are otherwise in good condition, get it done right, it is more than a cheap fix, but less than a new tire and a lot less headache.

I'm gonna withhold judgement because I can't see your cracks, but some cracking of the external rubber on a tire is normal. My Titans have cracks and even a few chunks out of them. I suspect the interior casing is probably perfect or nearly so. Tractors and tires last many years longer than passenger car tires because tread wear on turf/dirt is negligible and tires last 10-20-30 years. Some cracks are just the nature of the beast, but none of us can really say for sure without a photo of your tire/cracks.
