In the market for a new auger bit for my mini Ex. I came across the ones that TSC sells. Does any one know the difference between the countyline 12in and the "HD" ranchEx becids the price? I cant go look at both of them because the ranchEx isnt in stores.

I need a 2in round for my gear box...also im not augering out hundreds of holes. Mostly just a few sono tubes and a small city lot fence here and there at th most.

The countyline should work for you. I have the 12” and the 6”. We have red clay that will wear out the cutting edges out.
Keep the cutting edges sharp and replace them when they wear out you will be fine. None of them do good where there rocks.
I have the 12“ I have dug maybe only 120 4’ deep holes. I also have the 6” I have dug hundreds of holes.

We have lots of rocks. Clay hard as a rock, shale/clay blend, and bed rock sticking up out of the ground. The good spots have only clay.

You should see this worn out 12in auger i have. Its about 4in wide at the tip. Bought the mini like that. This thing couldnt auger a hole with half the weight of the machine on it.

The cheap augers are generally good enough as long as they have replaceable teeth & you dont have lots of rocks. My 12" did fine in hard clay. I have a 12" hex drive now on a hydraulic PHD. Cost over $400 for the auger alone. It's a lot beefier than the old $150 farm store one, but the cheap one was still fine after several hundred holes when it got sold with the old PHD & tractor.

I went to look at the countyline one today. Theres no way that would survive in my ground. The flutes alone are less than half the thickness of the original one. It easily weighs half as much too. Prob not going to work for me.

I think they sell auger heads for about $230.

Anyone found a reasonably priced 12 extension? I called about a Woods unit and was quoted $275...crazy. I see lots of them online but seem to be for 1 man and 2 man machines not 3 point tractor units.

You usually get what you pay for and there are extremes on both ends of the scale. Depending on the soil conditions and the amount of use, sometimes a cheaper manufacturer is adequate, plus some manufacturers have different models among their product line.

My personal preference has for a 3pt post hole digger has always been Danuser.

I agree with that. Already have a woods PHD but would like a 12 extension for the big. I do t think a 12 extension is worth $275...was thinking $50-100 would get it considering a 9 diameter bit 48 is only $150-200 total.

That does appear to be a very high price for a 12" extension. Particularly considering the price for a 9" Dia. bit.

My Countryline 12 inch auger is the third brand that I've bought. It is by far the best. In fact, for the money, it's just amazing at how well it digs. Soil that I struggled to get through, is now easy with the Countryline. Before buying it, we would use a SDS Max rotary hammer in jackhammer mode and a spade bit to get through the top layer of super hard packed red clay. Once I was down a foot, the other augers would work to some degree, but even then, sometimes I had to fill the hole with water and come back the next day. With the Coutnryline, I just drill right through the top soil. Biggest problem with it is that it drills too good and it will bury itself in seconds. You have to be super careful when using it on a 3 point hitch. With an excavator and reverse hydraulics, you will never have this problem.
