Spring is in the air, and I'm just itching to go play in the dirt. So to make sure that I have the appropriate tools this year, I've been comparing a few tractors. As of late, I've been giving a close look to the JD 790, NH TC30, and Kubota L2800. Yes, I like them all, but only one gets to come home with me. So I've recently consulted the other two members of my household for help.
The wife refuses to give an opinion. "Oh no," she says, "it's your tractor, so you have to make the decision." However, I recently observed that my four-year-old is very opinionated. She wants Daddy to get the blue one, I think.
She started helping me make my decision last week. We visited John Deere and were invited into the shop to take a look at the 790. The salesman was a nice guy. He had moved it inside for us, because it was raining.
Now, I think this tractor is a sharp looking machine, but as soon as my daughter saw it she began to protest. "No Daddy. Not green. Get a blue one."
"OK, OK", I replied, "Daddy is just looking."
So, This weekend I decided to take her camping. Friday night and Saturday morning were fun, but soon rain set in. It had the look of one of those all-day heavy, drizzles. At around 1:00, I broke camp, and we headed for home. Passing by a NH/Kubota dealer, I pulled in for a look. There sat a TC30. I wanted to see if it came equipped with rubber mats, step, and finder grips, as I've seen in some of the pictures. (The mat was there but step and grips were not. Must be accessories.) Then I spied another TC a little further down the line. With umbrella in hand, we headed off to take a look. About halfway down, I stopped and stepped up to a L2800 that was hidden between two larger tractors. Immediately, my action was met with my daughter's disapproval. "No, Daddy. Not the orange one. Get a blue twat-ta."
So I turned and asked, "Why do you want Daddy to get a blue tractor?"
"Because, It your favorite color that why I want you to get a blue twat-ta."
Wow! I was quite surprised. She was right. Blue is my favorite color. I remembered talking to her about favorite colors some time back, but I had never associated that discussion with my tractor selecting process.
After giving the Bota and TC a final look, we continued on our way. Just before I pulled off though, I asked her one last time. "Now, why do you want Daddy to get the blue tractor?"
"Because, it pwetty and sparkly," she said. Then looking up at me and smiling she continued, "Daddy, you know what twat-ta I weally like?"
"What's that baby. Which tractor do you really like?"
"Pink twat-ta. I really like a pink twat-ta. I wish you could buy a pink one."
Since they don't make one in pink, I guess I might as well go with the blue one. Now why haven't I thougt of this before. Blue is my favorite color, so get a blue one. However, if there was one offered in pink, I believe I just might have to take it. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
I thought those of you with kids or who have already raised them would appreciate this.
