unless i looked at the prices at lowes wrong, one inch pex is quite a bit cheaper than cpvc: i know it wasn't that way when i compared them a couple years ago: today a 10ft piece of one inch cpvc was a little over $13...while the same size in pex was a little over $8: i guess i will reconsider what i use from now on..

I found that to be true in Nov when I redid our bathroom. PEX was about the same price to rerun the pipes that had to be run (even when I got a 50' roll and only used 1/2).

It was MUCH easier to run than copper or CPVC.

One piece of advice, make sure the cheap PEX is not Chinese made. The quality standards are way off the US and Euro made PEX. My brother-in-law works at a Lowes and said they were selling unlabled PEX, ?? Chinese.

Get the PEX at a real plumbing supply store. It might be a little more, but it is still very inexpensive.

I would use polyethylene pipe black stuff in the 220lb psi range not the cheep stuff at home depot.

The connections are more expensive for pex then cpvc but if you value your time then it all works out in the end as Pex is so much faster and easier to run then even CPVC and its a lot less messy. You can work over carpets or finished floors without having to have anything down to protect the floor from drips of glue or primer.

My price for a 1k foot roll of 1/2" Radiant pex is $518, the 300' roll is the same per foot but just a smaller roll. I don't recall what my price is for the other pex as I dont have those prices right next to me like I do the radiant. The Aquapex I think was a little more per foot but the connections were cheaper as their plastic. The Watts pex (red and blue) should be about the same as the radiant as that tubing price I listed was for the standard radiant pex and not the aluminum pex. Either way it is so much nicer to just roll a solid line with no joints and to be able to cut it anywhere with a simple snip instead of using a saw and having to debur and mess around with glue.

I did our house with PEX it was cheaper, and easy to work with, plus less connections.

Pex is the only way to go these days. Faster, cheaper in the long run with the added benefit that can freeze and not be a problem. Great stuff. Once used, you will be hard pressed to be convinced to use anything else.
