Hey all,

I just got quotes for cedar and hemlock mulch delivered to a radius of less that 25 miles. 48$ / 45$ and 44$ per yard for cedar and a 44$ / 39$ and 36$ per yard fot the hemlock mulch.

I live in northern New Jersey. What are you guys paying?

We're getting double ground hardwod for about $22/yd and single ground for about $16/yd.

I've been trying to find just plain old wood chips from a tree company or somewhere. They used to give it away...now they want $6/scoop. geez.

The tree services are gouging if they are charging to dump a load of chips. If you call any of them and ask them to drop a load of chips if they are in the area usually they are more than happy. I am not sure if you can specify which type of chips. Especially if you see them out working not too far away. Another guy taught me a trick about getting fork lift parts is bring a box of doughnuts to the crew.:)

Is that price for the mulch installed? If not that seems like a ridiculously high price.

Wow, didn't know there was a desert in New Jersey. I haven't got mulch in a few years but the last time I did it was $14/yd. Again this was a little mom and pop outfit. They are a cash only business. I'd though about going back this spring, but with the wood chipper I shouldn't need to.

Nope price is not installed just delivered. These prices were from landscape supply companies.... the places that you can buy gravel, decorative gravel / stone, pavers, wall stone that type of stuff. Northern NJ is expensive to live in period. Money magazine continually rates northern NJ towns such as Alpine as the country most expensive places to live.

Last year our cost here for bark, (fir & hemlock,) sawdust or sawdust/chicken manure was $20 for a pickup load, (3 yards on mine.) Haven't bought any yet this year but can't imagine that it's changed a lot.

We have a landscape company that rents land from the mill in town and hauls sawdust out for the compost facility down closer to the city and hauls some chicken manure back for mixing here. Mill is cutting +/- 1.5 million bf per day so plenty of sawdust available.
