I recently planted some corn and also a strip of cover crop on my small garden farm. One question is how do large farm operations do with left over crops do they just disc or plow it under? can this be done with tiller or something else on my application?

Most people around here mow it down then disc it under. It usually requires several discings spaced a few weeks apart to complete the job.

Plow and disc it.

Here in Minnesota, farmers plow it under in fall, field cultivate once or twice in spring, & plant. You could use a disk instead of a field cultivator - the disk will compact a bit more, the field cultivator will lift & warm a bit more.

Many farmers are switching to notill, where nothing is done with the crop residue. The planters have row cleaners on them, & you just go in & plant in spring.
